June 17, 2024

In the second half of the semester, 12th-grade students chose various topics for their Senior Project, with three groups specifically focusing on Chinese studies. Over the course of eight half-day sessions, they conducted in-depth and interesting research in their respective fields.

Dramatic Performance: A Journey of Mind through Role Swap

A group of students presented profound artistic charm through a self-written play titled "The Heart of Exchange." Centered around the relationship between a father and daughter, the play skillfully designed a plot where roles were swapped. In the rehearsal process, students not only delved into the techniques of scriptwriting, but also experienced the psychological changes of different characters by portraying roles that contrast with their own personalities. Eventually, the play premiered on MIX DAY on June 6th. On that day, the audience was deeply moved by the conflict and understanding between the father and daughter after their identity swap, feeling the power of familial affection and the confusion of growth.

Research on Shanghai Cultural Landmarks: The Integration of Ancient and Modern in Xujiahui

In their journey to explore Shanghai's cultural landmarks, students selected Xujiahui as their research subject. As a sample of the integration of Chinese and Western cultures, Xujiahui has witnessed the historical changes of Shanghai. Through various methods such as literature review and field visits, students delved into the cultural and historical significance of Xujiahui. They not only documented the historical evolution of Xujiahui, but also analyzed its cultural significance in modern society. Through this project, students not only gained a deeper understanding of Shanghai's local culture, but also cultivated their critical thinking and cross-cultural communication skills.

Retracing Eileen Chang's Literary Route: Exploring Shanghai's Memories

As a representative figure of Shanghai's culture, Eileen Chang's literary works are deeply loved by readers. For their Senior Project, some students chose to retrace Eileen Chang's literary route, reviewing her life in Shanghai through her perspective. They followed in her footsteps, visiting her former residence, cafes, and bookstores mentioned in her works. Through field visits and literature research, students gained a deeper understanding of Eileen Chang's literary world and her affection for Shanghai. This project not only honed students' literary literacy and historical research abilities, but also allowed them to feel the close connection between literature and reality.
