Grade 9 Assembly: Introduction to Sailing

June 7, 2024

On June 5, students from the ninth grade had a unique learning experience. Felina and Nina, two fellow enthusiasts, took the opportunity during the morning assembly to introduce their shared passion for sailing to their peers. They shared their personal experiences and insights, hoping to inspire more students to understand and appreciate sailing.

First, Felina and Nina introduced the diverse forms of sailboats. They explained that each sailboat has its unique characteristics, from the common monohull sailboat to the unique catamaran. Each boat's sail and hull design is distinctive. The principle of sailing relies mainly on wind and water currents, as the wind flowing through the two sides of the sail creates a pulling force that propels the boat forward. Even under adverse wind conditions, the sailor can cleverly adjust the angle of the sail to maintain forward movement.

Next, Felina and Nina elaborated on the fundamentals of starting a sailing journey. They emphasized that a skilled sailor must have a thorough understanding of the sailboat's structure. Mastery of aerodynamics and geography, as well as the ability to make accurate judgments and timely responses, are also crucial. Understanding sailing rules and proficiency in using sailing equipment are equally important. Most importantly, consistent practice and repetition are essential for honing one's sailing skills.

Through this enlightening presentation, students from the ninth grade gained a deeper understanding and appreciation for sailing. Thanks go to Felina and Nina, for sharing their passion and expertise, and we eagerly await more exciting achievements in the field of sailing from them.
