Grade 9: Gateway Course Unveiled

At the beginning of the school year, Grade 9 carefully planned a series of Gateway Course activities, aiming to provide a smooth transition between middle and high school courses for new students who have just entered high school. This course included a concentrated subject course introduction on September 2 and 4, as well as lectures on learning strategies, research methods, time management, etc. in the second week.


In the event on September 2, first of all, the High School Vice Principal, Ms. Liu Min, warmly welcomed the arrival of the new G9 students. Afterwards, she provided a comprehensive overview of the characteristics of the high school system and its differences from the middle school system, particularly in terms of curriculum design and teaching methods. 




Mr.  Joshua Pickart from the history department then introduced the history subject and the curriculum requirements and two 11th grade students also shared their experience of quickly adapting to high school history class with their G9 peers based on their own experiences.




Mr. Sun from the chemistry department introduced the teaching content of high school chemistry from four aspects. He emphasized that high school chemistry students need to observe and think more, and find their own areas of interest. 




Ms. Wu from the mathematics department compared the differences between middle school and high school math learning with two 11th graders from various aspects, such as learning content, problem setting, etc. 




Ms. Wang from the biology department introduced the curriculum of high school biology courses and reminded everyone that if they are to apply for a biology major in the future, they should plan their course selection carefully.




Ms. Lu from the Chinese department was the last introducer of the first day. Ms. Lu invited an 11th grade student to talk in the form of an on-site interview to provide a detailed introduction to high school Chinese language learning. She informed the students that learning Chinese language is not only in class but also outside of class.



The activities on the second day were still rich. Firstly, Mr. Xu from the physics department used the relationship between physics and mathematics as a starting point to showcase the stunning world of physics to the new students. He emphasized that high school physics learning will provide students with many opportunities to showcase themselves, including choosing research and practical projects that interest them. 




English teacher Ms. Sedlock then introduced the differences between high school English and middle school English, telling students how to use high school resources, such as seeking help from writing center teachers. 




Mr. Wu from the music department introduced the setting of high school music classes, and also showed the music works of past students to ninth grade students. Two 11th grade students also shared their personal experiences with students about what they will learn in music classes.




Subsequently, two 11th grade students presented the learning content, challenges, and values of geography in a vivid manner. The teacher from the geography department also emphasized the curriculum design of the subject.




Mr. Li from the computer department and an 11th grade student introduced the high school computer curriculum and provided practical suggestions for students who want to choose computer courses.




Finally, Mr. Kelly, a teacher from the art department, led two 11th grade students to make their final appearance. They presented the methods of art learning and the learning objectives for 9th and 10th grade students in a visual and textual manner.




The new stage of learning has slowly begun. Let's take Gateway Course as the starting point and look forward to a fruitful high school journey!
