Grade 9: Parents Meeting Successfully Held
On the evening of September 6, 2024, the parents of ninth-grade students gathered on the SHSID campus to attend the first and long-awaited parent meeting of the school year. This meeting aimed to provide the parents with comprehensive information about high school life.
In Xianmian Auditorium, High School Vice Principal Liu Min gave a speech first. She emphasized the differences between middle and high school study. She introduced several methods for transition and pointed out that independent learning is crucial in high school. Ms. Liu wished the students a wonderful high school life at the end of her speech.
Next, Ms. Chen Lin from the High School Teacher Advisor Office introduced the teacher advisor program and the peer advisor program. In the teacher advisor program, students can receive advice on future competitions, career paths, interest development, or mental health support. In the peer advisor program, students can join different departments to aid themselves and their peers in school work and other activities.
Afterward, Mr. David Matthews introduced the House program. The House program distributes students into communities of people with similar interests. Students will receive lectures from experienced mentors, alumni, experts, and excellent student peers.
Finally, High School Principal Ma Feng delivered a closing speech. He emphasized the importance of a comprehensive education and introduced the school's high-quality resources, curriculum system, and international cooperation. Principal Ma also shared SHSID’s long history of excellence in academics and beyond. He gave advice to the parents and freshmen in the form of four keywords: self-discipline, confidence, independence, and self-improvement. After Principal Ma's remark, the first half of the meeting came to an end.
For the second half of the meeting, parents met with the homeroom teachers in classrooms. There, the teachers provided more detailed information to the parents and went through what the 9th graders experienced during the first week of school and the future events.
Overall, this parents meeting was able to effectively communicate adequate information to parents regarding Grade 9 students' high school life. This meeting not only prepared the freshmen for a successful high school life but also ensured effective communication between the school and parents.
