Primary School Math Department - Summer Holiday Homework

September 12, 2024

In the wonderful time of September, students from grades 2 to 5 have returned to school with joy, carrying their meticulously completed summer holiday math homework. During this summer vacation, they challenged themselves in the realm of mathematics, constantly demonstrating creativity and ingenuity, and revealing the mysteries of math in vivid detail. Each assignment is a testament to their wisdom, and each page of work tells the story of their growth and progress.

Second-grade students transformed into creative little experts, presenting a delightful "My Bakery" math poster showcase. The bakery names on their posters were whimsical and showcased exceptional ingenuity. The children have cleverly incorporated well-designed math applications into the “bakery”. This was not only a magical blend of mathematics and imagination but also a brilliant display of the children's creativity.

Amidst the laughter, a unique “Little Reviewers” event unfolded energetically in the classroom. The children were excited to go around the activity area, appreciating their work and sharing their opinions about the posters with each other. As the activity progressed, the students took the ballots in their hands and stopped in front of their favorite posters to cast their three votes. This poster exhibition not only highlighted the children’s creativity but also planted seeds of appreciation for others and respect for their work.

During the summer break, the third-grade students completed a special math assignment where they designed and created a clock themed "My Day" to showcase their daily routines. On the circular dial representing the hours of the day, the children meticulously divided and labeled each time segment, covering everything from waking up in the morning to meals, outdoor activities, reading, studying, attending extracurricular classes, and leisure time. To make the clocks more personalized, they infused their designs with their own interests and hobbies, giving each time segment a unique style and color.

For third graders, learning to manage time independently is an important skill. Through this creative process during the summer before entering the third grade, the children not only enhanced their sense of time and ability to manage it but also learned to present information through charts. Moreover, this comprehensive activity allowed the students to combine artistic creativity with rational thinking, resulting in a variety of unique and brilliant works. These creations now adorn the hallways of the new school year, drawing the attention of their peers who stop to admire them, share their lifestyles, and deepen their understanding and friendships with one another.

Fourth-grade students also delivered outstanding results, using their knowledge of planes and solid shapes to create extraordinary perspective drawings. In this fascinating three-dimensional world, the children meticulously sketched lively street scenes, infusing each detail with vibrant colors. They used bright yellows and oranges to depict the warm sunlight on houses, brilliant blues for the clear sky, and soft greens to outline the trees lining the streets. They skillfully applied the principle of depth, depicting objects with clear details in the foreground, while gradually reducing and blurring the details as the scene receded into the distance, resulting in a picture with distinct layers and a strong sense of depth.

Other children followed in the footsteps of mathematicians, experiencing both the challenges and joys of the mathematical exploration process. They learned about the struggles and groundbreaking discoveries of mathematicians, gaining a deep appreciation for the mathematical wonders of mathematics and discovering the subject's unique charm. This research and exploration not only ignited their strong interest in mathematics but also subtly planted the seeds of math in their minds, providing a continuous source of motivation for their future academic journey.

Fifth-grade students also showcased their talents during the summer vacation. They applied their mathematical knowledge to real-world scenarios by designing their "dream homes." They skillfully converted material information provided by contractors into the precise quantities and units they needed, ensuring accuracy in every material measurement. Through meticulous calculations of area and perimeter, they selected the most suitable furniture sizes, ensuring that every corner of the space was perfectly utilized. With small brushes in hand, they poured their heart and soul into each stroke, meticulously presenting the blueprint of their "dream homes." These dream homes not only reflect the students' exceptional creativity but also highlight their mathematical skills and practical abilities, transforming abstract numbers and formulas into vibrant real-world applications.

Talented students also showcased their learning and reflections from the past semester in various ways. They carefully prepared their work: some transformed into mini-teachers, designing challenging tests that provided a rigorous examination of knowledge; others wrote heartfelt letters, detailing the challenges they faced in their math studies and confidently looking forward to the new semester; and some submitted comprehensive math vocabulary manuals and engaging math games, demonstrating their effort and creativity.

Autumn brings a rich harvest, while summer is a time of growth. The summer math assignments stand as a testament to the students' hard work and desire for excellence. With the new semester now underway, let us greet this new chapter with enthusiasm, embark on the continued exploration of the wonders of mathematics, and embrace the exciting challenges that lie ahead.
