Puxi Campus G4-8 | Fire drill
On September 12, the teachers and students from grades 4 to 8 at the Puxi Campus of SHSID conducted a fire evacuation drill. As the students had just moved into the new Hsi Building, it was essential to help them quickly familiarize themselves with the new environment and strengthen their safety awareness. To this end, each grade organized activity classes focused on fire safety education, covering topics such as effective fire prevention and the importance of orderly and swift evacuation in the event of a fire. Special emphasis was placed on ensuring that students became thoroughly acquainted with the emergency evacuation routes.
Prior to the drill, teachers used floor plans of the Hsi Building to guide students to find the evacuation routes and safety exits, and explained the specific procedures and precautions for the drill. In addition, students shared their thoughts on the importance of regular drills and emphasizing that through consistent practice, they would be better equipped to respond swiftly and calmly in a real emergency.
In the afternoon, as the fire drill sirens sounded, all teachers and students in grades 4-8 immediately stopped their activities and swiftly evacuated the building according to the predetermined evacuation route. Throughout the process, each student remained calm and followed the route to the assembly point according to the evacuation route. Homeroom teachers then counted headcount and reported the evacuation status through different colored signs. Afterward, under the teachers’ guidance, everyone returned to their respective classrooms in an orderly manner.
Following the drill, the teachers reinforced the importance of fire drills to the students by sharing several real-life examples of successful fire escape cases. They used these examples to help students understand basic fire safety knowledge, learn of self-rescue and escape in a fire scene, and enhance their rescue skills. Homeroom teachers commended the students for their prompt and orderly evacuation but also identified areas for improvement, such as addressing brief congestion in certain corridors and practicing proper fire escape techniques like covering the mouth and nose with a wet towel or sleeve while bending forward during an actual fire. These observations highlight the need for greater attention to detail in future drills to ensure that every step of the process is as smooth and efficient as possible.
This fire drill not only strengthened the students’ psychological resilience and practical abilities in dealing with emergencies but also deepened their understanding of the importance of safety precautions. Moving forward, the school will continue to prioritize cultivating students' safety awareness and strive to create a safer and more harmonious campus environment.
