Puxi Campus Grade 6: Youth Development Class —Unlock Your Potential with SMART Goal Setting
As the new semester begins, every student in sixth grade is filled with new dreams and aspirations. However, how can these dreams be transformed into tangible achievements? In the second week of the term, during a youth development class, the students were guided by their homeroom teacher to explore a highly practical topic—how to set goals using the SMART principle.
In the class, the teacher introduced the five core concepts of SMART: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. To help students better understand these principles, the teacher provided examples of poorly defined goals, such as "I want to do better in my studies." What does "better" mean? The teacher then refined this goal to "I want to score 93 points in English on the midterm exam."
Another unrealistic goal was "I want to get an A in every subject." Acknowledging that perfection is not always achievable, the teacher adjusted the goal to "I want to achieve an A in five subjects," ensuring it adheres to the "Achievable" aspect of SMART.
After explaining each concept, the teacher also demonstrated how to set SMART goals through personal examples. This made the process of setting specific, measurable, and attainable goals more tangible for the students.
Finally, under the teacher's guidance, the students began to set their own goals. Everyone participated actively, translating their dreams into concrete action plans. Through this lesson, the students not only learned how to set goals scientifically but also gained confidence in achieving them.
Unlock Your Potential with SMART Goal Setting—this was not just the theme of today’s class but also the empowering message that every G6 student took away to guide their future academic journey.
