Grade 11 Assembly: Adventures in Dreamland
On the morning of September 26, 2024, the 11th-grade students of SHSID gathered at the Xianmian Building Annex, attending the weekly Assembly. After the brief announcements of Ms. Yu, Ms. Su came on stage to give the students a lecture on sleeping.
Ms. Su started the lecture by playing a game of true or false to test the students’ “Sleep IQ.” The game included several common misconceptions many students were surprised to discover when it was revealed to be true or false. The students found that the true statement “Teens need 8 to 10 hours of sleep per night” was especially meaningful, as it encouraged many of the students to reflect on themselves. Then, Ms. Su explained the benefits of sleeping well, the potential consequences of sleep depletion, and some tips to sleep effectively. She also introduced the students to a “bedtime calculator” and resources from professional authorities. Ms. Su ended her lecture by wishing the students a good night’s sleep. The students learned valuable facts and advice regarding sleeping, and many of them were motivated to modify their sleep schedule.
In the P&B class on the second day, the homeroom teachers showed the students an interesting video about sleep, so that the students could further understand the various knowledge about it. At the same time, the homeroom teachers also gave the students a “Sleep Worksheet” to help them better improve their sleep time and quality.
