SHSID Middle and Primary School were Invited to Participate in the Launch Event of the "Urban Biodiversity Protection Sci-Tech Innovation Platform"

On September 20, 2024, Guo Chenbing, a representative teacher from SHSID Middle and Primary School, attended the launch event of the "Urban Biodiversity Protection Sci-Tech Innovation Platform," held at the Sinan Mansion's Sinan Literary House. With the theme "Co-building and Sharing a Harmonious Home for All Living Creatures," the event marked a significant step forward in Shanghai's efforts to protect biodiversity and created a new platform for the school’s students and teachers to explore nature and participate in ecological conservation.

At the launch ceremony, Mr. Lei Xudong, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Landscaping and City Appearance Bureau, delivered an inspiring speech highlighting the importance of biodiversity conservation and the long-term impact of the innovation platform. Other leaders, including Mr. Zheng Guanghong, Deputy Inspector of the Shanghai Science and Technology Commission, also attended the event and presented certificates to the platform’s member organizations. Ms. Yan Wei, Director of the Shanghai Botanical Garden, gave a detailed presentation on the background, plans, and future vision of the platform, showcasing an innovative model that links research, education, and community action. Ms. Gu Fang, Deputy Director of the Huangpu District Landscaping and City Appearance Bureau, proposed an ambitious vision of turning the entire city of Shanghai into a botanical garden by promoting plant diversity as a driver of overall biodiversity.



As a member unit, SHSID Middle and Primary School received the "Urban Biodiversity Protection Sci-Tech Innovation Platform" member unit certificate. This recognition not only acknowledges the school's long-standing efforts in science education and ecological protection but also signifies increased opportunities and resources that will benefit both teachers and students in the future.

During the thematic reports, experts and professors from School of Ecological and Environmental Sciences,East China Normal University, School of Design, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Changning District Ecological Environment Bureau shared their insights on topics such as the current state of biodiversity conservation, the relationship between biodiversity and cities, conservation strategies in the context of urban renewal, sustainable community design, and community biodiversity protection practices. These cutting-edge academic discussions and practical case studies offered valuable references and inspiration, providing rich material for future educational activities in schools.



At the event's conclusion, attendees visited the platform members' biodiversity conservation innovation exhibits, gaining a firsthand understanding into the vital role of technological innovation in ecological protection. Ms. Guo, the teacher representative from SHSID, expressed that the event not only deepened her understanding of biodiversity protection but also sparked enthusiasm for integrating this knowledge into teaching practices and guiding students to care about the ecological environment. In the future, the school will closely collaborate with partner organizations such as the Shanghai Botanical Garden to promote the construction and development of the innovation platform. This will incorporate ecological science education into students' daily lives, contributing to cultivating future talents with environmental awareness and innovative abilities.
