Puxi Campus G2: Black and White Chess Displays Skill, School Chess Tournament Passes on the Legacy
On October 9, 2024, the Shanghai High School campus held a unique "Hand in Hand" Go exchange tournament bringing together students from both the high school main campus and second graders from the international division. Go, a game of intellect and profound with deep roots in Chinese culture was the center of the event. We were honored to have Mr. Feng Zhigang, Principal of SHS, Ms. Zhang Zehong, Secretary General of SHS, Mr. Liu Maoxiang, Vice Secretary General of SHS, Mr. Liu Lian, Principal of SHSID Middle and Primary School as special guests, whose presence greatly motivated and encouraged the participants.
The tournament paired high school students with second-graders, and despite being only in the second grade, the young players approached the chessboard with confidence, showing hesitations or fear. They sat upright, fully focused and carefully pondering each move while their high school partners, poised and composed, took on the role of thoughtful strategists. Together, they thoughtfully considered each move, allowing the younger players to fully immerse themselves in the excitement of the game. The atmosphere on-site was both tense and lively, filled with concentration and enthusiasm.
More than just a chess game, The "Hand in Hand" tournament was a meaningful exchange of heritage and learning. The high school students, acting as older brothers and sisters, continuously offered sincere encouragement and guidance, helping the young players experience the beauty of Go and the joy of competition. The second graders, in turn, brought their infections enthusiasm and fresh perspectives. Their courage and vibrant energy deeply inspired the high school students, adding a unique brilliance to the event.
After half an hour of intense competition, the event concluded with the selection of Outstanding and Distinguished Awards, which were presented by Principal Liu Lian. The participants’ impressive performances earned enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Shanghai High School, is known for academic excellence on the main campus and multicultural spirit in its international division creating an engaging platform for interaction through this event. The "Hand in Hand" event created a platform for campus interaction, where youthful vitality met innocent charm. In the world of black and white chess pieces, students gained not only improvements in their chess skills but also forged friendships across age groups and insights into their continuous growth.
