Parent-Teacher Meetings for Sixth-Graders: Collaborative Efforts to Usher in a New Chapter of Middle School Learning
To help smoothly transition and adapt to middle school, the grade six team organized and hosted the first parent-teacher meeting for sixth-graders on the evening of October 15. The event was help in the new Hsi Building Lecture Hall. The parent-teacher meeting helped foster a platform that prompted close cooperation between home and school, setting the foundation to enhance students' independent learning abilities.

At the beginning of the meeting, Ms. Wu Wenyi, the head of the sixth grade, introduced the middle school’s the teaching philosophy and long-term goals to parents. She closely tied concepts to real-life examples of sixth-graders, and elaborated on the learning habits that students should cultivate upon entering middle school. Ms. Wu, also touched on efficiently utilizing various learning tools and abundant teaching resources. Regarding topics of widespread concern among parents, such as the regular teaching arrangements and student evaluation systems, Ms. Wu provided detailed and clear explanations and answers to help reassure parents.

Following Ms. Wu’s introduction to the evening, heads of various subjects took the stage to provide in-depth explanations of their subjects . Ms. Chen Fan, the head of Chinese for the International Division’s middle school, introduced in detail the classifications and requirements of the distinctive Chinese subjects. She offered targeted learning suggestions for both native and non-native speakers.
Meanwhile, Mr. Jason Brigham and Mr. Jacob Newman, the heads of the English and History, elaborated on the teaching objectives, requirements, and the importance of cultivating critical thinking from multiple perspectives. Their presentation gave parents a clearer picture of their children's future learning journey in junior high school.
Following, Ms. Zheng Wenyin, the head of the middle school mathematics , emphasized importance of mathematical thinking in middle school. She shared methods to cultivate students' correction habits and their internal drive for active exploration.
Then, Ms. Du Jiani, the head of middle school science, proposed guiding students with interest so that they can approach science learning with enthusiasm.
Lastly, Mr. Shen Tianyuan, Vice Principal of SHSID Middle and Primary School , spoke about the school segment and family education. He highlighted that middle school curriculum content is rich and diverse, with teaching methods focusing more on the comprehensive development. He noted that the evaluation system exhibits dynamic and procedural characteristics and encouraged students to be eager to learn, think deeply, and actively face various learning challenges. During his presentation, Mr. Shen emphasized how important family learning is, noting that parents multiple roles. Parents need to be guides for adolescents and earning their child’s trust is particularly crucial. It is important for parents to provide companionship and support, while patiently accepting their children's emotions, they can gradually guide them in solving problems. In communicating with teachers, parents must work on conveying positive reinforcements. Through collaborative efforts between home and school there is promise to create a bright future for our children.

This parent-teacher meeting exchanged and transmitted information , yet fostered collision and fusion of hearts. Through this meeting, parents gained a clearer understanding of the learning requirements and training objectives for middle school. Their determination and belief in collaborating with the school was strengthened to build a better future for their children.
