Stallions Sent 33 Swimmers to Water Cube Youth Invitational
The weekend of May 18th and 19th was destined to be an extraordinary weekend for the SHSID Stallion Swim Team as they participated in the 2024 Water Cube Youth Open Swimming Championships held at the Water Cube in Beijing, the site of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
This weekend more than 1,940 young swimmers from 69 swim clubs (schools) in 13 provinces competed in 140 individual and relay events. Under the leadership of the coaching staff, the Stallions sent 33 outstanding student athletes to participate in two days of fierce competition. The athletes gritted their teeth, fought hard, cut through the waves, competed with top level student athletes from all over the country. The stallion swimmers won a total of two gold, two silver, five bronze, and a number of Forth, Fifth, Sixth and Sevenths place. Stallions swimmers ranked the total points Seventh among all 69 clubs (schools).
Saturday was the 7-8 and 11-12 years old age group competition, the swimmers may be young, but they are not afraid of hard work. They quickly adapted to the Olympic lanes, showing their extraordinary ability to compete at the highest level.
After the fierce competition, the Stallions collected two gold, one silver, several fourths to seventh places. A number of athletes had beat their own personal bests. It is worth mentioning that Miranda Sun not only won two gold and one silver, but also broke the competition records in the 50M female backstroke and 50M butterfly!
Sunday was the 9-10 and 13-14 age group competition. The team's opponents came from the highest level swimming clubs and schools of Shanghai, Zhejiang, Shandong and Beijing. But our team members were fully prepared. They broke their limit, challenged themselves and proved themselves by creating their personnel best one after another. Finally, at the end of the day, the Stallions swimmers got 1 silver medal , five bronze medals and some top 4th to 7th in rankings lists.
The 13-14 age group girls Olivia Wu, Dora Zhou, Susan Wang and Chloe Jiang, united together to win a bronze medal in the 4x100 freestyle relay, which is one of the most prestigious freestyle relays in a swimming competition. Chloe Jiang, less than an hour after she finished her first ever 400M freestyle, made a strong effort to win a valuable silver medal, reaching the national first level athlete standard with a time of 1'02''48 and breaking the competition record of 1'03''. This is a testament and best reward for her persistence in coming to school swim team for training every day in the past three years. And it is also the result of hard work of the excellent swimming coaching team in SHSID.
Finally, a major thank you to the excellent coaching team who led the team in Beijing, the parents who helped coordinate the family committee, and the family committee responsible for filming. Stallions, ride together!
