Puxi Campus G8 | Career Day Parents’ Sharing
During the afternoon on October 24th, eighth grade students attended the Career Day lecture. The school invited Mr. Kaiser, the father of Michelle 8-2, Mr. Yan, the father of Forrest 8-5, and Ms. Browning, the mother of Lydia 8-8, to share about their careers. To ensure that students could benefit from the lectures, Sunny from Class 8-1, the host of the activity, created a worksheet to distribute to all students in the grade, hoping to help the students explore and seek interest in different fields of careers.
Mr. Kaiser, father of Michelle 8-2 began the lecture by introducing his career and experiences as an artist, outlining what it means to be an artist. In his presentation, he discussed various forms and methods of painting, providing new perspectives for artistic creation. He also shared the experiences and challenges he faced while pursuing his own artistic dreams. Ultimately, he highlighted many challenges that artists encounter in this era where technology develops rapidly and how he continues to maintain his passion and pursuit of art in such an environment.
Following, Mr. Yan, father of Forrest 8-5 introduced the world of finance to the grade, sharing his experiences as a finance professor. He began by introducing the basic requirements and responsibilities of becoming a professor; then he explained why finance can be so exciting and provided analysis for the extraordinary accomplishments of financial knowledge. During his speech, he started an interactive game that engaged the students’ enthusiasm, while using mathematical knowledge to explain principles of concepts like bank deposits and interest. Through Mr Yan's sharing, many students realized that finance is not only about money, it is also a way of life and a way of thinking.
Then, Ms. Browning, mother of Lydia 8-8 introduced how the Fortune 500 companies apply the concept MBTI & DISC, and how MBTI can help students with course selection and future careers. In her presentation, she utilized her expertise as a senior MBTI and DISC certified instructor to explain the comprehensive content and understanding of the two personality tests. She included the concepts of the tests, testing methods, and version comparisons that she deals with thorough her scope of work . Last but not least, she discussed how personality tests are understood and utilized in the workplace and how they can be suitable for development paths based on test results.
During the activities of parents’ sharing, students actively participated in the interaction and earnestly wrote down their thoughts on the relevant career contents on the inquiry worksheet. In their reflections, they mentioned that they not only broadened their views, but also developed a deeper interest and thought on future career development. The Career Day Sharing concluded successfully amidst enthusiastic applause from the students. The event was well supported by the 8th grade PTSAs and we would like to express our sincere thanks.
