High School Biology Department: Grade 9 Biome Project Exhibition Debuted
At the end of October, the Grade 9 biology course started the study of various biomes on earth. Biome is earth's terrestrial ecosystems based on regional climate communities. On the seven continents, we can discover the humid and warm tropical rainforests, as well as the cold and vast Arctic tundra. These are the diverse biomes formed after hundreds of millions of years of evolution on organisms and their habitat.
In class, Grade 9 students studied about the ten typical biomes on the earth. Then, the students freely formed study group and chose a biome they were interested in for in-depth exploration. Students worked together to collect and organize materials on the Internet and described the biotic and abiotic factors of the selected biome in detail. They also further researched on the typical features about the morphology structures and living habits of the animals and plants living in the biome, and analyzed how these characteristics can adapt to the climatic conditions in such biome.
After the inquiry-based study, each group presented their researches to the teacher and other students in class in the form of hand-made models and slides. The models were carefully selected and displayed in the lobby of Zhongxing Building titled "9th Grade Biome Model Exhibition". The whole project allowed Grade 9 students to develop their sense of cooperation and hands-on skills while learning academic knowledge. Their outstanding handcrafts also gave the chance for their peers at SHSID to experience the diverse and unique charm of the biospher.
