Cambridge Professor Gave Inspiring Cultural Talk at SHSID
On November 14, Professor Nicholas Chrimes from the University of Cambridge visited SHSID to deliver an engaging lecture titled “The Spirit of Cambridge University” to high school students.
During the talk, Professor Chrimes explored the history of Cambridge University, sharing its origin, growth, and the challenges it faced over time. He brought the campus to life with vivid descriptions of its rich art, sports, and architectural traditions, giving students a glimpse into the university’s unique culture and heritage.
The professor also compared the higher education systems of China and the UK, highlighting similarities and differences. He noted that while the two systems have distinct approaches, elements of Chinese culture, such as influences on library collections, literature, and sculptures, can also be found at Cambridge. This perspective encouraged students to think deeply about cultural exchange and global connections.
After the lecture, the attending students asked thoughtful questions, which Professor Chrimes answered enthusiastically, creating a lively and interactive session.
Later, Professor Chrimes met with several high school teachers to discuss current trends in education. He also toured the campus, impressed by its beautiful surroundings and modern facilities, and shared his best wishes for the continued success of SHSID.
