History and Geography Department: Philosophy Fair, Wisdom Collision
On November 20, at noon, a Philosophy Fair was held in the lobby of the Zhongxing Building. From video games to art and thought experiments, students from grades 8 to 12 showcased displays demonstrating the essence of philosophy: what it is, how it is practiced, and how it connects to our lives.
Students emphasized the main goal of philosophy—asking profound questions about existence and morality, such as "Who are we?" and "What is the right thing to do?" Some displays explored how video games raise philosophical questions about free will, prompting reflections on how much freedom we truly have or how reality can be distorted. One table was dedicated to the practice of philosophy, engaging visitors in classic thought experiments like the Trolley Problem. A particularly interactive table on social constructionism had participants perform jumping jacks to earn "money," challenging them to question why we work and who determines the value of money. Passers-by also enjoyed the chance to win stickers and even Lego philosophers by testing their knowledge in philosophy trivia.
This event gave a glimpse into the kind of thought-provoking discussions that take place in the school's philosophy class, where students explore these and many other big questions.
