Puxi Campus Grade 6: Youth Development Class —Healthy Mindset and Relationships

November 25, 2024

To help sixth-grade students better cope with the physical, emotional, and social changes of adolescence, this week's youth development class organized an educational activity titled "Healthy Mindset and Relationships." The activity encourages students to accept themselves, learn how to set and respect personal boundaries, thereby fostering healthy interpersonal relationships.

The course is divided into two parts. The first session focuses on "Body Image."

Adolescence is a period of rapid physical change, during which many students feel uneasy about their bodies, often influenced by external factors such as idealized images on social media. Teachers informed the students that everyone's body is unique, and they should view their own and others' bodily differences with love and respect. By watching the video "Talking About Bodies with Love," the students learned that everyone has their own characteristics, which make us distinct and worthy of pride. Additionally, teachers guided the students to discuss gender-specific physical changes, helping them correctly understand and accept these natural changes.

The second session revolves around "Understanding Personal Boundaries and Respecting Others."

As adolescence approaches, children gradually develop a stronger sense of self and independence, while also encountering situations where their personal space or emotions may be violated. Teachers instructed students to recognize their discomfort, learn to say "no," in order to protect their health boundaries. At the same time, the importance of respecting others' boundaries was emphasized, including physical, social, and emotional boundaries. Through specific examples and interactive activities, students learned that setting boundaries does not harm friendships; instead, it promotes mutual understanding and respect, reduces conflicts, and builds healthier and more harmonious interpersonal relationships.

Through this course, the sixth-grade students have enhanced their self-identity and self-esteem, becoming confident, self-loving, and respectful young individuals.
