Puxi Campus Middle and Primary School Science and Technology Department:SHSID Middle and Primary School Wins Second Prize at the 13th Fun Mechanics Invitational Competition

Recently, the 13th Fun Mechanics Invitational Competition (Mingcheng Cup), organized by the Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics and hosted by Beijing Mingcheng Foreign Language School, was successfully held in Beijing. The competition attracted 70 teams from 45 schools. SHSID Middle and Primary School participated in the event for the first time and secured the second prize in the middle school category amid fierce competition.



The competition aimed to spark young people's interest and passion for science through engaging mechanics-based activities while fostering innovation and practical skills. During the event, Hanrui Chen, Ibai Shen, and Cathy Jin from SHSID tackled the challenge of building a "card tower" and creating innovative model cars. They demonstrated exceptional teamwork and creativity, constructing a high-quality tower within the time limit. Their card tower stood out for its stability, unique design, and aesthetic appeal, earning them recognition.



In addition to the building challenge, students attended lectures by experts and scholars from Peking University, Beijing Institute of Technology, and Beihang University on mechanics and related topics, broadening their academic horizons. Following the competition, Professor Duan Huiling, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and dean of the College of Engineering at Peking University, delivered a science popularization lecture titled The Charm of Mechanics and Robotics. She encouraged students to maintain their enthusiasm for mechanics and to embrace challenges in the unknown.

The students from SHSID expressed that the competition not only deepened their understanding of mechanics but also honed their practical skills and teamwork. They are determined to continue their efforts and strive for further achievements in scientific exploration.

This competition was not just an opportunity for self-expression and academic exchange but also a testament to the school's commitment to science education. The school remains dedicated to providing students with more opportunities to participate in science activities, cultivating their innovative thinking and practical abilities, and empowering them to excel on their scientific journey.
