Grades 11-12: 2024 English Speech Contest Held
On December 11th, despite the light rain falling from the winter sky, the Grade 11 and 12 students remained enthusiastic and gathered in the auditorium of the XMT Annex Hall to participate in the annual English Speech Competition, witnessing this year's grand event that showcased the charm of language.

The theme of this year’s speech competition was "Changes," aimed at guiding students to explore the meaning and implications of transformation. Contestants presented innovative and unique viewpoints on this theme, addressing personal growth, media changes, and technological advancements. Their speeches showcased a profound understanding of "change."

One by one, contestants stepped onto the stage with their carefully prepared speeches, each offering a distinct perspective. Some focused on the importance of emotional connections in modern society, emphasizing the need to cultivate empathy to bridge interpersonal gaps and reduce misunderstandings. Others discussed the dual role of media in shaping public opinion, urging the audience to develop the ability to discern truth in the age of social media. Additionally, contestants explored the potential impacts of climate change and new technology on humanity's future. These speeches not only reflected young people's deep insights into global change but also demonstrated their heartfelt concern and sense of responsibility for the future.
In terms of speaking skills, contestants performed exceptionally well, displaying confidence, enthusiasm, and proficient language expression along with stage presence. They effectively used vivid stories and examples to support their arguments, making their presentations more compelling and persuasive. Contestants also focused on engaging the audience through questions and prompts. The modulation of their voices, use of body language, and well-timed pauses contributed to making their speeches captivating.

Following the performances, a panel of English teachers provided high praise for the contestants. The judges noted that contestants not only displayed outstanding speaking skills but also conveyed a deep concern for social change. They believed that the contestants raised profound questions and showcased the sensitivity and courage of the younger generation regarding global issues. Teachers encouraged all students present to continue engaging with these important topics in the future and to strive to be active forces for social progress.
Subsequently, the competition concluded with the awards ceremony where the crowd erupted with applause! Teachers presented bronze, silver, and gold awards, creating a warm and lively atmosphere.

Congratulations to all the award recipients! This speech competition not only provided students with a platform to showcase their public speaking skills but also fostered awareness of critical societal issues. It served as a powerful reminder of the importance of language and public expression. Special thanks to all the contestants for their active participation, the teachers, ASB members for their careful organization, and the English teachers for their dedicated guidance, which made this event a resounding success.
