Puxi Campus Grade 6: Youth Development Class — Gratitude and Kindness
To enhance the spirit of mutual assistance and encourage students to actively seek support from teachers, thereby establishing a safe and loving learning and growth environment, the Grade Six teachers have meticulously prepared a youth development course titled "Gratitude and Kindness."
At the beginning of the class, the teachers introduced two key concepts: "Gratitude" refers to feeling thankful for people and things around us and expressing that thanks; "Kindness" is about being friendly, generous, and considerate towards others. These qualities not only help build good interpersonal relationships but also transform the school into a safe and happy place, encouraging everyone to respect and support each other.
Through discussions on how to create a positive environment, students learned that acts of kindness make people feel valued and accepted. Kindness fosters trust and friendship and can be spread, creating a more harmonious classroom and campus atmosphere.
In the interactive segment, the "Star of Praise" activity allowed students to work in groups, writing down each other's strengths and highlights on star-shaped cards. This activity aimed to cultivate an appreciation among students and promote recognition and respect for their peers through concrete actions.
Furthermore, the course clearly delineated the differences between bullying, conflict, and joking, helping students understand the boundaries between different behaviors and learn how to handle interpersonal challenges appropriately.
As the climax of the lesson, all students participated in the creation of a "Tree of Love." The teacher drew the trunk and branches on a large sheet of paper, and each student wrote their promise of kindness on leaf-shaped pieces of paper, such as "I promise to help classmates in need," or "I will invite others to play games with me." They then attached their leaves to the tree, collectively completing a meaningful piece of art.
This class was not just an educational experience but also a cleansing of the soul. It taught students to view the world with a heart full of gratitude and to treat everyone around them with kind actions, laying a solid foundation for building a harmonious campus. May every student become a little messenger spreading warmth and strength, allowing kindness to take root, sprout, and flourish within the school grounds.
