High-Quality Science Education Empowers Students' Innovative Thinking: Terrific Achievements at 2024 ISEF
In the early morning of May 18th, Beijing time, several high school students from Shanghai High School International Division achieved remarkable success at the 75th International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) held in Los Angeles, USA, winning multiple awards.
In this competition, the students secured the First Award in Biomedical and Health Sciences, the Second Award in Materials Science, and the Fourth Award in Physics and Astronomy, among other Grand Awards. Additionally, they received two Special Awards for their scholastic efforts.
In external competitions, SHSID students consistently achieve remarkable results; in internal education and teaching, our teachers are making steady and solid progress.
On the afternoon of May 16th, just before the ISEF Grand Award Ceremony, a national teaching demonstration themed "High School Science Education and Scientific Literacy Cultivation" was held on the campus of Shanghai High School. SHSID also offered open classes in four subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, showcasing the "SHSID approach" to science education to educators across the country. The live online broadcast also drew considerable interest from international schools. These classes highlighted common practices at SHSID, such as the integration of conceptual learning, interdisciplinary thinking, the use of information technology, and flipped classrooms. Municipal subject teaching experts have lauded the open classes, recognizing the critical role of SHSID's practical approach in fostering students' innovative thinking and problem-solving skills in science education. They emphasize how SHSID approach aligns with the "Double New" concept and underscore its significance for further research and adoption.
Congratulations to the winning students! We also look forward to seeing more students soar with the spirit of scientific research and achieve even greater success!
