Pudong Campus|Fifth Grade PG Lesson - Decoding Emotions: The Perfect Blend of Creative Expression and Role-Playing
On the afternoon of March 20th, the fifth-grade students at SHSID Pudong Campus participated in a unique “Emotion Learning” activity during their personal growth (PG) class. The activity, themed “Understanding, Expressing, and Managing Emotions,” combined creative drawing, role-playing, and group discussions to help students better understand and manage their emotions while learning to empathize with others.
In the classroom, the teacher first introduced the basic concepts of emotions, such as happiness, sadness, anger, nervousness, and excitement, and encouraged students to share moments when they experienced these emotions in their daily lives. Then, each student chose an emotion and created their own “Emotion Emoji.” The students showcased their creativity by using vibrant colors and unique designs to express their understanding of emotions.
The highlight of the activity was the role-playing session. The teacher assigned each group an engaging real-life scenario, including: The Great Recipe Disaster, Mystery at the Museum and Survival at Sea. Each group member was assigned a different emotional role, and through lively performances, they showcased how emotions manifest and influence complex situations. The students not only experienced the diversity of emotions but also learned how to collaborate, communicate, and solve problems as a team.
After the performances, the class engaged in a discussion and reflection. Students shared their feelings during the role-playing and explored how to better understand and respond to their own and others’ emotions, thus deepening their understanding of empathy and communication.
