From Waves to Wisdom: 9th Graders Bridge Sports and Ideas at SHSID Assembly

On May 6, 2025, all ninth-grade students and faculty of SHSID gathered at the ZXB Theater for a unique grade-level assembly. Centered around the theme of "Reflection and Vision," the event showcased highlights from a recent windsurfing competition while previewing the upcoming TEDxSHSID Youth 2025 speech, The Power of Perspectives, scheduled for June 21.


The assembly kicked off with an engaging presentation by Austin from Class 9(10), who shared his firsthand experience in the windsurfing competition held from May 2 to 5. Through a well-prepared slideshow, Austin vividly recounted the event, breaking down key techniques such as upwind sailing, tacking, and beam reaching, while also analyzing strategic navigation approaches. His professional yet lively explanation offered peers an insightful look into this physically and mentally demanding water sport. Emphasizing the value of perseverance, Austin quoted legendary American football coach Vince Lombardi—"Winners never quit, and quitters never win"—resonating deeply with the audience.




The second segment shifted focus to the future, as members of the TEDxSHSID Youth organizing committee took the stage to announce this year’s event. They elaborated on the theme The Power of Perspectives and revealed key details: the speech will take place from 1:00 to 5:00 PM on June 21 at the ZXB Theater. With inspiring words, the committee painted a captivating picture of the intellectual feast to come, successfully igniting excitement among attendees.



The assembly was dynamic and substantial, blending reflections on past experiences with anticipation for future endeavors. After the event, many students expressed how enriching they found the gathering and eagerly marked June 21 in their calendars, looking forward to the stimulating ideas and inspiration that TEDx promises to deliver.
