Grades 9-10 Career Day: Guiding Futures, Igniting Dreams
On the afternoon of May 14, Career Day activities were held for 9th and 10th graders. Alumni and guests gathered on campus to share their successful experiences and provide guidance for the students' future development. The career sharing, which lasted one and a half hours, covered various fields, including computer science, music, psychology, consulting, healthcare, biology, international trade, and new media. Students could freely choose whom to listen to and broaden their horizons.
This Career Day event brought together professionals from diverse fields such as healthcare, business innovation, art design, and scientific research, offering students a multidimensional view of careers. Biomedical experts unveiled the logic of exploring medical frontiers through genetic technology and clinical cases. At the same time, entrepreneurs shared practical experiences building brands from scratch, emphasizing the balance between user needs and market insights. Sports industry speakers analyzed the synergy between event management and brand marketing from a global perspective, and a music producer showcased the intersection of art and commerce through survival strategies for independent artists. Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners also demonstrated how modern pharmacological data revitalizes ancient diagnostic methods.
Notably, some speakers highlighted emerging trends—for instance, a consultant stressed the importance of data-driven decision-making, and a visual artist explored the potential of AI-generated art. The event reinforced a key message: whether in traditional or emerging fields, maintaining an open mindset and embracing interdisciplinary knowledge are essential to navigating today’s rapidly evolving professional landscape.
Two lectures swiftly passed in an hour and a half, with students actively participating in the Q&A session and feeling eager. The students' sincerity also touched the guests, enthusiastically sharing their experiences and career reflections. This valuable experience will inspire and motivate students to succeed in the future.
As the lectures ended in what seemed like the blink of an eye, students left the sessions brimming with excitement for the future. Here are some heartfelt reactions from students.
"Throughout the sessions, I witnessed the process of building a career and a company kick-started from a social media account. This was inspiring and provided information about quite a niche and independently established career. Creating your own career instead of looking for jobs was very inspiring for me."
"I listened to a lecture on the music industry and one on finance and marketing. These lectures were all very insightful and provided an overview of many jobs related to these subjects. The alumni also told us the skills that may come in handy when working in these jobs, and informed us on how our experiences from SHSID may help us in these future jobs."
"I was able to get to understand the intricacies of jobs commonly labeled with broad names like “marketing” and “managing”. For instance, one alumnus working in marketing explained in detail B2B marketing and B2C marketing, providing valuable advice based on personal experience, lifting the veil on previously confusing careers. This provided much-needed background and widened my perspective on possible careers. Overall, this was very enjoyable and enhanced my excitement for the future."
Through its diverse range of professional sharing, this event has broadened students' horizons and provided valuable references for their future career planning. We believe these precious experiences will accompany students throughout their growth and ultimately bear fruitful results in the future.
