Puxi Campus Grade 6: Youth Development Class —Digital Citizenship

May 26, 2025

On Thursday's Youth Development class, sixth-grade students participated in a "Digital Citizenship Literacy" educational activity. Through interactive practice, the session guided students to develop awareness of online safety and digital ethics. The event began with discussions on topics such as "Boundaries of Online Behavior," followed by a "Viewpoint Scoring" activity that helped build an ethical understanding framework.

In the "AI Integrity" module, a five-level scale (from red to green) was introduced to assess appropriate use of AI tools like Chat GPT. Case studies—such as using Chat GPT to draft a story outline—helped clarify principles like citing sources and completing core content independently. When addressing cyberbullying, students compared different scenarios to distinguish between unintentional exclusion and deliberate harm, and developed action guidelines such as reporting bullying and refusing to spread harmful messages.

For digital literacy training, examples like the false news story "2 million Americans died from drinking water" were used to teach students how to evaluate the reliability of information through source credibility and logical analysis. Students also learned to verify facts using tools like Snopes.

At the end of the session, students solemnly signed the "Digital Citizen Pledge" and created creative posters featuring symbols like the "Watchful Eye" (representing critical thinking) and the "Shield" (symbolizing online safety). Through role-playing and scenario simulations, students not only learned practical tips—like avoiding suspicious links and not forwarding videos randomly, but also understood that the internet is not just a playground, but a shared public space that everyone must help protect. This engaging and meaningful lesson helped young learners take responsibility for their actions online while gaining deeper digital awareness.
