History and Geography Department: Wars and Peace – 10th Grade Second Semester Project

May 28, 2025

On the afternoon of May 27, students in 10th-grade history class met in the B1 Lobby of the Zhong Xing Building for History Day activities. The topic was "War and Peace: A Historical Analysis of Conflicts and Diplomacy (1600-1945)". The primary purpose of the project is to enable students to explore the causes, events, and consequences of major wars/conflicts, and peace efforts during this time period, to analyze how wars/conflicts shaped the political, social and economic landscapes, as well as how peace treaties and diplomacy attempted to restore stability. After a month of preparation, students continued to refine their work, and the final presentation was conducted in small groups, creating an immersive experience that was rewarding for those who navigated the museum-style exhibits, as well as for those involved in game design and communication.

The specific topics presented primarily covered the Thirty Years’ War and the Peace of Westphalia, the American War of Independence, the Napoleonic Wars, and the Congress of Vienna, as well as WWI and the Treaty of Versailles, WWII and the Post-War settlements, among others. The students of each group took turns taking care of their booth, either introducing the relevant battles and treaties or explaining the game rules and guiding players to join the “duels” or “monopoly”. The atmosphere was vivacious.

Students learned through play, experiencing the fun of applying knowledge and the charm of teamwork. Students either recorded the information about the exhibits and analyzed the connections between historical events, or joined in the team games and experienced the ups and downs of history through cleverly designed event cards, learning and progressing together in interactive communication.
