SHSID Hosts Award Ceremony for Educators for Future Award

June 3, 2025

On May 30, 2025, Shanghai High School International Division (SHSID) held the award ceremony for its 7th Educators for Future Award in the school auditorium. After two rounds of competition—including talent showcases, impromptu English speeches, and teaching demonstrations—many young teachers were honored for their exceptional teaching skills, creativity, and dedication to education. SHSID staff gathered to celebrate these achievements. The ceremony was hosted by Mr. Ni Minxue and Ms. Liu Shan, directors of the SHSID Teachers Center.

The event opened with a video featuring highlights from the primary and middle school competitions. Teachers from various disciplines delivered lessons based on the theme “Change and Eternity.” Chinese teachers connected classical literature to contemporary life, math teachers applied real-world scenarios, and science teachers emphasized hands-on applications. These lessons reflected both deep subject knowledge and innovative instructional strategies.

Ms. Wang Yun, one of the participating teachers, shared her experience in preparing for the competition. She described how she used the animated series Peppa Pig to teach the mathematical concept of age difference, making the lesson both engaging and easy to understand. She emphasized the importance of aligning teaching with students’ ways of thinking to support meaningful learning. She also credited collaboration and online teamwork as key contributors to her lesson’s success.

The first round of awards recognized winners in the English speech category, talent nominations, and third-place teaching demonstrations. SHSID Principals Mr. Ma Feng and Mr. Liu Lian presented the awards.

Principal Liu, who oversees the Middle and Primary School, commended the young teachers for their thoughtful lesson design and confident classroom performance. He praised their creative use of artificial intelligence in math classes and their ability to make ancient Chinese texts relevant to students today. He encouraged all teachers to continue nurturing students’ critical thinking and curiosity.

A second video followed, spotlighting the competitions among high school teachers and faculty in music, physical education, and the arts. This segment followed the theme “Breaking Boundaries and Rebuilding Education,” and highlighted how digital tools and creative ideas were used to design meaningful and engaging lessons.

High school teacher Ms. Shen Yuting then gave a speech reflecting on her teaching journey. She encouraged fellow educators to act as learning partners rather than mere providers of knowledge. Her classes explored real-life topics such as procrastination and memory, helping students connect classroom learning with their daily experiences. She also shared how interdisciplinary approaches—such as combining psychology and economics—promoted broader, more integrated thinking.

Following her address, Principal Ma Feng and Principal Liu Lian awarded the second-place winners for teaching demonstrations.

In his closing remarks, Principal Ma reflected on the evolution of teaching at SHSID—from clear instruction to creative, student-centered learning—and highlighted three key strengths: teachers' personal growth through cross-disciplinary skills and the use of AI, strong teamwork within subject groups, and thoughtful lesson design centered on student development and curiosity. He encouraged all educators to keep rethinking both what and how they teach in a rapidly changing world.

In the final segment of the ceremony, Principal Feng Zhigang and Party Secretary Zhang Zehong presented the first-place teaching awards. The audience responded with enthusiastic applause, marking a fitting end to a day of celebration.

This year’s Educators for Future Award offered a meaningful platform for young teachers to share ideas, showcase innovation, and grow professionally. More importantly, it passed on a spirit of passion and excellence—ensuring that SHSID’s culture of teaching excellence continues to thrive and evolve in the years ahead.
