Hongkou Campus Open Day
On the morning of May 15th, Hongkou Campus hosted its Grade 1-2 Open Day. Nearly two hundred parents stepped into vibrant classrooms, experiencing diverse learning activities and sharing moments of exploration and laughter with their children.
Classroom Excellence: Interactive Learning in Action
The open day centered around authentic classroom experiences. Parents observed nine specialized subjects, gaining firsthand insight into daily teaching practices while witnessing children's growing confidence through interactive discovery.
Chinese: Grade 1 students mastered identifying important details in notices through "Animal Kingdom Message Relay" games, while non-native speakers became "little teachers" applying sentence patterns during dumpling-making. Grade 2 "explorers" created Wilderness Survival Guides by combining language skills with natural science.
Math: Grade 1 classrooms transformed into lively "auctions" where students bid earned "coins" for prizes, practicing counting and verification. Grade 2 "detectives" employed logical reasoning to solve shape puzzles, discovering teamwork's value.
English & Science: In Grade 1 English, the "brain-break" video recorded by foreign teachers energized the room as parents and children danced along to rhythms while learning homophones. Grade 2 Science focused on states of matter; students and parents made "slime" together, gaining hands-on understanding of non-Newtonian fluids and the joy of scientific inquiry.
Arts & PE: Grade 1 Art saw children create vivid "porcupine pufferfish" using marker and cotton swab blending techniques, impressing parents with their creativity. The dance studio buzzed with energy as students mastered basic jazz rhythms, then designed personalized dances using given choreographic constraints (e.g., stationary movement, varied arm motions). Grade 2 Music offered global flair with students yodeling Swiss Hiking Song. On the sports field, children focused on perfecting their forehand swing, focusing on perfecting their technique, before engaging in fun rallies with parents.
Parent Feedback: Partnership in Growth
The Open Day received high praise from parents. They widely commended the interactive, well-prepared, and substantive lesson designs, noting teachers' experience, passion, and patience. Parents expressed particular delight in witnessing their children's growth and confidence, praising the positive, orderly learning environment and the variety of engaging activities like group work, games, and experiments.
Feedback overflowed with appreciation: "The math auction was both fun and practical – so relatable to real life!” "The science experiment truly made the knowledge come alive!” "The lessons went beyond knowledge transfer; they sparked thinking and cooperation. Every detail was thoughtfully designed – the children are so fortunate!”
The Open Day served as a bridge, offering parents deep insight into the school’s educational philosophy and practices. They witnessed firsthand the power of their children's growth through active exploration, confident expression, and teamwork, further strengthening the foundation of trust and partnership between home and school.
