Puxi Campus G8: Graduation Expedition
In midsummer, with the cicadas chirping cheerfully, the eighth-grade students of Shanghai High School International Division are about to bid farewell to their middle school years. On the occasion of the Dragon Boat Festival, they welcomed a graduation themed activity called 'Sailing with Dreams, Youth Sets Sail.' This event focused on outdoor challenges and teamwork, honing the children's leadership, communication skills, and resilience, marking a meaningful conclusion to their middle school journey.
In the early morning, the students gathered in the classroom full of anticipation before boarding buses to the Oriental Land Youth Activity Base. As the largest off-campus activity camp for teenagers in Shanghai, Oriental Land is located by the picturesque Dianshan Lake, it has abundant outdoor facilities and a beautiful natural environment. Along the way, the students chatted and laughed, eagerly looking forward to the challenges ahead.
Upon arrival at the base, the students assembled in the Green Boat Theater. They first took graduation group photos and recorded a lively and creative graduation slogan video, leaving behind precious memories of their middle school life. Then, the twelve classes divided into two groups and headed to the 'Honeycomb Tower' and the expansion garden lawn to begin the day's challenges.
The Honeycomb Tower high-altitude activity was the highlight of the day’s events. Under the guidance of coaches, the students put on professional gear and began their ascents. Compared to previous spring outings, this activity was more challenging. In the space exploration area, the students had to complete complex climbing routes, which tested not only their physical coordination and endurance but also cultivated their courage and determination. At times gripping the ropes tightly, at times stretching their limbs, they challenged themselves at high altitudes, overcoming their fears. After the activity, the students unanimously shared that this experience brought them unprecedented excitement and thrill.
Meanwhile, the other 6 classes were on the grass field outside engaged in "Drumbeat Synergy", a teamwork exercise where teams of ten worked together—one tossing a ball onto a drum, while the rest controlled its bounce by pulling attached ropes. The goal? To tally the most bounces within a time limit. Initially unsteady, the students adjusted their rhythm, tension, and positioning through trial and error, gradually syncing into perfect harmony. Laughter, drumbeats, and cheers blended into an atmosphere of joy, with every team emerging stronger in collaboration.
After lunch, the eighth graders gathered at the Oasis Dock for the final event—dragon boat racing. Under the sun’s golden glow, the lake shimmered as teams paddled in unison to the beat of drums. Splashing through the water, their boats shot forward like arrows, propelled by united strokes and spirited shouts. The rhythmic drumming and collective effort concluded in a triumphant loop around the island, reinforcing the power of teamwork and shared triumph.
On the way back, lively discussions filled the buses. “This was the most challenging field trip!” exclaimed one student, while another reflected, “Our teamwork improved so much!”
As the sun dipped below the horizon, the students returned to campus, carrying not just memories of exhilarating challenges but also evident growth. This extraordinary journey—like a prism—refracted rays of courage, colors of cooperation, and the full spectrum of maturity into a rainbow of experiences. Here, every young heart found its unique light, a beacon to guide them forward on life’s vast and winding voyage.
