Grade 10 Assembly: IMMC Experience Sharing

June 12, 2025

On the morning of June 11, Grade 10 students gathered in the B1 Lecture Hall of the Zhongxing Building for their weekly assembly. The primary focus of this session was a special sharing by two award-winning students from the International Mathematical Modeling Challenge (IMMC): Li from Class 10(4), and Wang from Class 10(5).

The two students gave an insightful presentation, covering an overview of the competition, their modeling process, and key takeaways from the final defense. IMMC is a global interdisciplinary contest that challenges high school students to solve real-world, open-ended problems through mathematical modeling, report writing, and team collaboration.

Their team tackled two distinct problems: Robot Jump Rope Modeling and Sports Event Scheduling. Throughout the presentation, the students emphasized the importance of teamwork and division of labor. While each member focused on different aspects, a comprehensive understanding of the entire project was essential for all. They also advised beginners to first study and organize classic models and outstanding past papers before delving into the underlying principles.

Regarding the final defense, they highlighted that emphasizing innovation in the presentation was key. Thoughtful use of animations can help illustrate model changes, but it is equally essential to ensure accuracy in formulas and clarity in slide design. They reflected that although the competition improved their modeling, communication, and collaboration skills, there is still room for growth in time management, pacing during the event, and presentation techniques.

This sharing session not only deepened students’ understanding of academic competitions but also inspired many to take on interdisciplinary challenges with greater confidence and curiosity.
