Grade 9: Back-to-School Parent Meeting
Grade 9 marks the exciting start of high school, a pivotal stage where students embark on a journey to pursue their dreams and discover their unique identities. To provide parents with a deeper understanding of their children’s personal growth in high school, Shanghai High School International Division warmly hosted the Grade 9 Back-to-School Parent Meeting on the evening of September 4, highlighting the school’s steadfast commitment to its educational mission and the holistic development of every student.
Guided warmly by dedicated student volunteers, parents arrived at the Annex Hall of Xianmian Building, where the first session of the meeting began. Ms. Chen Lin, the head teacher of Grade 9, opened the event by introducing the dynamic and committed team of homeroom teachers.
Mr. Ma Feng, Principal of the High School Division, delivered the opening address. He reflected on the opportunities and challenges brought by the era of artificial intelligence and examined the evolving expectations modern education places on students’ holistic development. Principal Ma highlighted the remarkable achievements of our students, both in extracurricular activities and in academic performance and college admissions. Drawing on comprehensive data, he noted that while the school takes pride in its strengths, it remains acutely aware of the challenges ahead. He emphasized that the leadership team not only analyzes overall trends but also attends to the growth and needs of each individual student, providing tailored support to foster their personal development.
Looking to the future, Principal Ma stressed the school’s commitment to equipping students for uncertainty through a diverse curriculum, innovative educational initiatives, and strong collaboration between school and families. Following his address, he also engaged with parents by providing thoughtful responses to their questions.
High school vice Principal Ms. Liu Min focused on the transition from middle to high school, detailing the curriculum for Grades 9 and 10, and sharing the diverse platforms and abundant resources the school provides to support each student’s personalized growth. Ms. Liu highlighted the school’s scientific guidance in areas such as homework management, responsible phone use, reading habits, healthy sleep, and physical exercise. She warmly invited parents to partner with the school to provide support and guidance for their children.
Ms. Ye, from the Teacher Advisor Office, introduced the Teacher Advisor (TA) program, explaining how teachers with diverse professional backgrounds offer personalized guidance and support to students. English teacher Mr. Matthews then presented the vibrant House Program, showcasing how its varied activities provide students with rich opportunities for growth and platforms to shine.
The second session took place in different classrooms in the Zhongxing Building, where homeroom teachers met with parents in smaller groups. They provided detailed insights into the school’s thoughtfully designed curriculum, vibrant campus activities, and unique classroom management approaches. Through these engaging discussions, parents gained a deeper appreciation for SHSID’s educational philosophy and the enriching high school experience awaiting their children.
The parent meeting fostered a stronger connection between families and the school. With this collaborative partnership, we are confident that our Grade 9 students will embrace the chapter of high school with assurance and shine brightly on their unique journeys.
