Puxi Campus G7: YD Education: Good Manners Matter

September 9, 2025

At the start of the new semester, seventh graders at Puxi campus took part in a YD lesson about a theme closely related to daily life— good manners. The lesson featured structured activities to help students identify good and bad manners and apply what they learned to school and public settings.

The class began with a discussion where students defined "manners" in their own words. They then identified examples of positive behavior and calculated their personal "manners scores," prompting reflection on their daily conduct.

Next, the lesson shifted to manners in public spaces. Students examined three scenarios, distinguishing between appropriate and inappropriate behavior and suggesting improvements. In group discussions, they explored how good manners can positively shape the classroom atmosphere. Students agreed that small gestures— such as waiting patiently in line or saying thank you— can make a significant difference.

The lesson continued with a group role-play activity. Students drew scenario cards and acted out examples of good manners. Through collaboration and peer feedback, they turned theory into practice, deepening their understanding in an engaging way.

As an exit ticket, students recorded examples of both good and bad manners they had observed and made personal commitments to demonstrate courtesy the following day. This brief reflection encouraged them to apply their learning in everyday contexts.

This YD lesson not only emphasized the importance of good manners but also inspired students to put them into practice at school. Over time, these small acts of kindness and politeness can help build a more welcoming and harmonious school community.
