Hongkou Campus: Zoo Adventure-A Day at Shanghai Zoo with Grade One "From Preparation to Exploration, Follow Our Journey!"
On April 28th, a vibrant spring day, the first-grade students of SHSID Hongkou Campus joyfully set off for the Shanghai Zoo, embarking on a journey filled with exploration and discovery of the animal kingdom.
Getting Ready for Our Zoo Adventure
Before the spring outing commenced, the school conducted etiquette education in public places as part of the personal growth curriculum, teaching students how to behave appropriately in places like the zoo. Additionally, the teachers introduced the rules and procedures for visiting the zoo, such as not feeding the animals, not tapping on the glass, and resting and having lunch in designated areas. These lessons ensured that the students would conduct their visit in an orderly and civilized manner. To make the spring outing more educational, the school meticulously prepared a task list. This was not just a simple checklist of tasks but also a guidebook full of fun academic challenges. Driven by these tasks, the students were required to observe the animals carefully, explore their habitats, and investigate their behavioral patterns. These tasks were closely aligned with their science curriculum, allowing students to learn while having fun and to develop their powers of observation and spirit of exploration.
Exploring the Wonders of Shanghai Zoo
On the day of the spring outing, the first-grade students of the Hongkou Campus entered the Shanghai Zoo, filled with laughter and excitement, as they were captivated by a variety of animals. The students observed adorable pandas up close, marveled at the towering giraffes, were amused by the lively antics of monkeys, and were deeply impressed by the majestic presence of lions. Guided by tour guides and teachers, the students learned a lot about animals, and their curiosity about the natural world grew even stronger. During the tour, the students followed instructions well and conducted themselves in a civilized and polite manner. They even took the initiative to remind other visitors when they observed undesirable behavior. After finishing their meals, they also conscientiously cleaned up the dining area, demonstrating good citizenship. Throughout the entire journey, they shared and communicated with each other, helped one another, and displayed love and unity.
Taking on Zoo Challenges
After the tour ended, the students continued to excitedly discuss their observations and discoveries on the way back to school. Upon returning to the campus, they began to write down their observations and discoveries on the task Sheet. Pandas that can climb trees, elephants live in the grasslands, meerkats are small in size but can stand on two feet... In just a few hours of experience, the classroom was brought into nature, giving this spring rendezvous a deeper educational significance. The students applied knowledge from textbooks to their lives and explored the mysteries of nature in their daily lives.
Reflecting on Our Zoo Adventure
The students also conducted self-assessments of their performance during the spring outing. They reflected on whether they had adhered well to public etiquette, if they followed instructions well, and whether they had treated others kindly during the tour. The students earnestly reflected on their behavior throughout the entire tour. Most affirmed their adherence to rules, obedience to instructions, and assistance to others. They also expressed their intentions to be more civilized and polite in the next journey, in order to create a better public environment. Through self-assessment and reflection, they not only enhanced their self-management skills, but also identified areas for improvement.
We believe that this enjoyable and educational spring outing not only sparked students' interest in exploring the mysteries of nature, but also cultivated their abilities to observe and explore. Although the spring outing has ended, the students' footsteps of exploration and discovery will continue to grow.
