Pudong Campus G3: PG Class: A Journey of Civilized Exploration
"Welcome to the Planet of Etiquette!" Every Friday during the Personal Growth class, Pudong Campus students of Grade 3 will transform into "Etiquette Guardians," embarking on a unique journey to explore the world of civility and good manners.
Contextualized Learning: Making Etiquette Education More Engaging
The "Etiquette Planet Tour" course adopts a contextualized teaching model, transforming abstract rules of etiquette into concrete and engaging "planetary missions." Within the 15-minute sessions, students immerse themselves in everyday etiquette learning through three key activities: reciting the Etiquette Charter, performing short role-play skits, and creating etiquette story illustrations.
The children's enthusiasm for learning is high. For example, in the lesson on "how to politely ask for help," children don't just listen passively. Instead, they act out scenarios— such as aliens in need of assistance and Earthlings offering a helping hand— naturally mastering polite expressions such as "please" and "thank you" through performance.
Real-Life Connections: Fostering Civility in Global Citizens
The course content focuses on real-life situations from students' daily experiences: how to politely start a conversation with others, how to greet teachers and elders and how to share items with classmates. Each theme stems from practical issues children often encounter. Through lively and engaging scenarios, students learn basic social etiquette in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
The children lingered after class, crowding around the teacher as they eagerly shared: "My favorite part is acting in the skits! Last time, I played a spaceman who accidentally bumped into someone and took the initiative to apologize. Now I use the etiquette skills I learned in class every single day."
Diverse Teaching Approaches: Embedding Etiquette in Both Mind and Heart
The course employs a variety of teaching methods: Read It— reciting catchy etiquette rhymes to aid memory; Act It Out— using role-play and situational reenactments to spark empathy and Draw It— illustrating short etiquette stories to consolidate learning and unleash creativity. In just 15 minutes, students are always left wanting more, eagerly anticipating the next class.
So far, third graders at the Pudong Campus have completed two etiquette lessons. Teachers have observed that, little by little, the children are improving their words and actions. By the end of this semester-long "Tour," each child will receive an exclusive "Planet of Etiquette Passport," documenting their growth and achievements throughout the course. Let us look forward to seeing these young citizens gain lifelong civility and social skills as they journey across the "Planet of Etiquette!"
