Puxi Campus G1-3: Fire Drill
In September, the Character and Morality Curriculum at SHSID focused on the theme of Safety and Discipline. As part of this theme, all grade levels participated in safety education and reviewed classroom expectations. On the afternoon of September 24, all teachers and students from Grade 1–3 at the SHSID Puxi Campus took part in a well-prepared and efficient fire evacuation drill.
Before the drill, homeroom teachers introduced fire safety knowledge during Personal Growth lessons through engaging animations, interactive quizzes, and demonstrations. Students learned how to prevent fires, why evacuation drills are important, the correct posture of bending down and covering the nose and mouth during evacuation. Teachers also carefully explained each class’s evacuation routes and safety exits. Through group practice and peer checking, students internalized the essential points of fire safety in an interactive way.
When the sharp fire alarm suddenly sounded, white simulated smoke quickly filled the hallways, and everyone immediately entered emergency mode. Under the guidance of teachers, students lined up swiftly, bent down to lower their center of gravity, covered their mouths and noses, and followed the steps of the classmates in front of them. Without pushing or crowding, they proceeded along the designated escape routes in an orderly manner and evacuated efficiently to the safe area on the playground. Teachers then checked attendance and reported each class’s evacuation status using a color card system. Within just 1 minutes and 20 seconds, all students and teachers from Grades 1–3 had safely completed the evacuation.
After the drill, Ms. Zhang Yi, Director of SHSID Puxi Campus Grade 1-3, provided a summary. She pointed out that the students and teachers performed very professionally in the drill, demonstrating a high level of safety awareness and teamwork.
This drill aimed to strengthen fire safety awareness, enhance scientific evacuation skills, and improve self-protection abilities. It ensured that in the event of an actual emergency, every member of the school community could remain calm, remember the evacuation routes, and reach safety at the first possible moment. Puxi Campus will continue to conduct scenario-based safety drills tailored to the cognitive development of younger students, transforming abstract safety knowledge into hands-on practice. These exercises will help children truly master self-protection skills and build a strong “safety shield” for the entire campus.
