During my nine years at SHSID, the wisdom of my teachers and the enthusiasm of my classmates guided me through adolescence, helping me grow from an uncertain boy to a young adult bold enough to dream and create.

Nowadays, I am studying IT at Duke University and still remember the many rich experiences I had at SHSID, such as serving as the student editor of PA magazine and participating in computer competitions.

As SHSID marks it 160th anniversary, I wish it opens new chapters of excellence and flourish for years to come!

It’s hard to believe SHS is turning 160. My time there was filled with freedom, color, and growth. I practiced the clarinet in the music room, ran laps on the field, and played badminton with friends. Outside the classroom, I slowly discovered my own rhythm and passions. SHSID wasn’t just a place to learn—it was a place that encouraged exploration and expression.

I’m grateful for the open-mindedness and inspiration I found there.

Wishing SHS even more years of nurturing curious, sincere, and creative minds.

Looking back on the seven years I spent in the high school; I can't help but feel a myriad of emotions. From a bookworm who was obsessed with learning to a young man who could excel in all aspects - the changes these seven years have brought to me are unparalleled.

When I first entered the school in the sixth grade, I was quite proud of my excellent academic performance. But when I saw my classmates' performances in debate, art, sports and other fields, I suddenly realized my own limitations: academic studies are far from the entirety of middle school life.

My Alma mater, thank you for opening this window for me to see a broader world. From merely burying oneself in studies to delving deeply into scientific research, exploring interests in clubs, and experiencing warmth in volunteer services, I have truly understood what "all-round growth" means.

The progress on the report card is clearly visible, but the transformation from singularity to diversity is the most precious gift that SHSID has bestowed upon me.

Now, as a student at the Faculty of Medicine of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, I have begun my internship in hospitals in Hong Kong. I will carry forward the rigorous, hardworking and innovative spirit that my Alma mater has taught me to seek the future!

During my six years at SHSID, what I cherish most is the quiet friendship that deepened with time. I entered the school alongside a friend who was born on the exact same day as me — same year, same month, same day. Every noon found us sharing meals — six years woven into this shared ritual. As days flows and seasons turn, these shared days sharpen in my memory.

What I miss most is the scenery of our campus. Late November finds itself in the golden ginkgo leaves filling the view outside our classroom window. Sunlight spilling in as we wandered through the corridors, searching for a quiet, empty classroom, where we would eat lunch and share idle chatter. In the springs that followed year after year, after PE class, we would slip away to the grassy hillside. Lying in the grass, blades brushing past our ears— shade beneath us and above. For the entire spring, we lay on the green hillside, reading, talking, and dreaming up futures under open skies.

Those afternoons — hidden in ginkgo veins and grassy scents—

remain SHSID’s most precious gift. It was here that I built a friendship to last a lifetime and began to trace the contours of my own becoming. My youth lies in these tender, fleeting moments of time.

As a student who has entered SHSID since first grade, I can confidently say that this school has carried all of my youth.

From my years in this school, what has improved is not only my academic knowledge, but also my desire to explore new fields of learning. The solid foundation in the sciences that SHSID built for me gives me confidence in competitions and encourages me to express my own thoughts and perspectives in out-of-school programs. In humanities subjects,  I gradually came to analyze and appreciate the literary masterpieces that writers have meticulously crafted over many years. With the support of my teachers, I have been immersing myself in feeling by heart how history has shaped human thought.

At SHSID, what I treasure most are the friends I made here. Friends can be playmates, study partners, dining companions, or even confidants as close as family members. The friendships of my student life seem eternal—even if we happen to quarrel or make impulsive mistakes, we always reconcile and once again dash off together during breaks to Lawson to scavenge for snacks.

People often say that a person’s achievements come from their own determination. While this idea is undeniable, I believe that a nurturing environment is also an essential factor in shaping who we are. I am deeply grateful for SHSID’s cultivation of me over the past 10 years, and I wish my beloved school a blissful 160th anniversary!
