Continuing Tradition, Deepening Friendship: Annual Visit from Thailand’s Mahidol Wittayanusorn School

October 16, 2025

In the crisp and clear October, a delegation of teachers and students from Thailand's Prince Mahidol Memorial Science School visited our school as scheduled, continuing the long-standing tradition of annual exchanges between our two institutions. During the week-long activities, the Thai teachers and students joined classes at our international school, learning alongside our students, exchanging ideas, and deepening the strong bonds of friendship between the two schools.

In the 10th-grade chemistry class, the exchange group explored the concept of strong and weak electrolytes with our students. They actively participated in lab experiments, collaborating with group members to measure the conductivity of different solutions using a conductivity meter, intuitively understanding the differences in properties between strong and weak electrolytes, and summarizing identification methods, demonstrating their enthusiasm for science.

In the AP English class, students from both schools engaged in a “CHORES Blitz” activity, generating targeted arguments for various topics and writing in-depth thesis statements and counterarguments. This critical exchange sparked critical thinking, continuing the tradition of academic interaction between the two schools.

In the AP Biology class, the exchange group focused on cellular respiration, reinforcing their knowledge by completing activities related to the mitochondrial respiration process. Two visiting students proactively presented their work on stage and participated in a group discussion on “Mitochondrial Mutations and Health Impacts,” showcasing their solid academic abilities.

In the AP 3D Art class, the exchange group observed our students’ pottery-making process and discussed the flame patterns of Thai architecture and the spatial rhythm of the Thai curled-tail duck. Within ten minutes, they began creating: Group A crafted flame reliefs for temple ridges, while Group B sculpted curled-tail ducks seen on Thai streets. After the class, their works were set out to dry side by side and will be taken back to Thailand to share with more students, serving as a memento of cultural exchange.

In the 10th-grade physics class, the exchange group and our international students reviewed the kinetic theory of molecules and its four assumptions, learning the derivation of formulas for pressure, average kinetic energy, and root mean square velocity. In group competitions, visiting students actively demonstrated calculations and derivations on stage, showcasing their strong mathematical and physical abilities.

In the IB Math class, students from both schools explored the properties of functions and the relationships between first- and second-order derivatives. By reviewing definitions of monotonicity and concavity, they gained a deeper understanding of the importance of derivatives as analytical tools and mastered the core skills for analyzing function extrema and inflection points. In group discussions, they explored methods for sketching function and derivative graphs. Visiting students presented their results on stage with clear logic, reflecting rigorous mathematical thinking.

In the AP Music class, the exchange group studied the interval theme in the Harmonic Organization unit, experiencing the charm of harmonic art through ear training and multi-part sight-singing. During vocal part exercises, students from both schools collaborated seamlessly, experiencing the artistic expressiveness of different intervals, adding a musical resonance to the exchange.

As a highlight of the visit, a lively interactive symposium was held between teachers and students of both schools. The 11th-grade director of the international department, college counselors, student representatives, and the Thai delegation gathered to discuss the unique features and cultures of their respective schools. The director briefly introduced the educational philosophy and characteristics of the international department, followed by enthusiastic interactions where students shared details about their schools’ curricula, campus activities, and sports, as well as anecdotes about their hometowns. This symposium not only deepened mutual understanding but also added a warm touch of friendship to the annual exchange in a relaxed and joyful atmosphere.

This long-standing tradition of mutual visits has not only fostered academic and cultural integration but also provided a valuable platform for the growth of students from both schools. We look forward to reuniting next year to continue this deep cross-border friendship!
