Celebrating Wit and Respect: Freshmen Chinese Debate Awarding Ceremony

October 17, 2025

The award ceremony for the Grade 9 Chinese Debating Competition concluded successfully on October 14 in the Zhongxing Building Atrium, marking the culmination of a month-long event that began in September with full participation from all classes.

The ceremony began with a video that blended clips of highlights from professional debate tournaments with memorable student performances. The representative of the Chinese Debating Club then delivered a speech emphasizing the spirit of debate etiquette, noting that while debate is built on intellectual clash and passionate expression, respect and restraint must remain at the core, where no viewpoint should be defended at the cost of courtesy.

The spotlight moment of the assembly was the awards presentation. Student Lu from Class 9(1) was named “Best Debater”, expressing gratitude to the school for fostering growth through public speaking. Class 9(4) claimed First Place, followed by Class 9(10) as Runner-Up, while Class 9(1) and 9(6) shared Third Place. A group of students was also honored with Excellent Debater Awards for their outstanding performances.

As applause echoed across the hall, the exciting event drew to a joyful close. More than just a competition stage, the debate also served as a classroom for character. May the students carry forward the etiquette, teamwork spirit, and critical thinking skills they gained, continuing to shine in future challenges.
