Renewed Self ·New Pathway Record of SHSID Middle and Primary School Professional Development Day

October 20, 2025

On October 11th, the first Professional Development day of this semester for the Middle and Primary School was held in the Auditorium of the Hsi Building. This PD day consisted of three parts: a completion ceremony for 2023 new teachers, a symposium on AI integration in teaching, and Subject Department discussions.

Blossoming as Renewed Selves

The event began with the completion ceremony for new teachers who joined in 2023. After two years dedicated guidance under the mentorship program, they successfully completed their training, stepping into their renewed professional selves. Principal Liu Lian presented the new teachers with certificates and flowers, congratulating them on their training completion. The new teachers, in turn, expressed gratitude to their mentors with flowers. Ms. Duan Xiaoqian, representing the new teachers, and Mr. Kang Liang, representing the mentors, both delivered speeches. Mr. Chen Teng, who completed his mentorship ahead of schedule, and his mentor, Ms. Yao Qing, also shared heartfelt reflections on their mentee-mentor journey.

Carving New Education Pathways

The second part featured the seminar on AI application in subject teaching. TeacherQiu Linyu, Pu Xiaoying, Zhang Yuanjing, Duan Xiaoqian, and Zheng Wenyin shared engaging presentations based on classroom cases from their respective subjects, exploring topics such as AI-powered teaching, the pilot implementation of AI platforms in education, and trends in AI development.

After commenting on the excellent presentations by the teachers, Principal Liu Lianput forward two expectations for all teachers: firstly, AI-powered teaching should emphasize "the whole process" and "all elements," where "the whole process" include pre-class, in-class, and post-class teaching stages, and "all elements" refer to the integration of teachers, students, content, evaluation, environment, and other teaching-related factors; secondly, he encouraged all teachers to embrace a spirit of research, teaching while researching, and constantly reflecting on three core questions: What teaching challenges can AI help address? What added value can AI bring to teaching and learning? How can their findings be documented and refined into replicable and shareable teaching models—leading the way in AI + Education.

Following the exciting joint session, each subject department also conducted its owngroup teaching seminars. Around the theme of AI-powered teaching and combinedwith the subject characteristics, they conducted in-depth and effective discussions inthe form of workshops, sharing sessions, etc., exchanging ideas and sharing practical solutions.

The entire Professional Development day was both a celebration of mentorship completion and an inspiring exchange of innovative teaching ideas, leaving every participant enriched and motivated to continue walking their inspired pathways in education.
