Grade 9 Assembly: The Power of Sports-Building Strength in Body and Mind

October 22, 2025

On October 21, freshmen students held an assembly in the B1 Theater. Among the ninth graders, Ibai from class 9(1) delivered an inspiring speech titled “Sports”, fascinating the audience with his personal experiences.

In his speech, he introduced his homeland’s traditional sport – handball – and shared his thoughts on the importance of sports in students’ daily lives. Handball is played on a court where players hit a small rubber ball, about the size of a baseball, against a wall using their hands or equipment such as rackets or curved baskets. It can be played as singles or doubles, and in some variations, players used only their hands.

Beyond these, Ibai also reflected on his personal sports experiences, encouraging classmates to make exercise a regular habit. He emphasized that sports not only strengthen the body but also benefit the mind. Regular physical activity enhances muscles, bones, and cardiovascular health while reducing stress and anxiety. By helping students balance study and rest, sports improve concentration, memory, and problem-solving skills. Moreover, sports cultivate teamwork, discipline, and leadership, which are essential qualities both in school and beyond.

The audience responded enthusiastically, giving Ibai a warm round of applause for his engaging and informative presentation. Teachers and students praised his ability to connect personal experiences with universal life lessons about growth and well-being. Events like this not only showcase the talents of students but also inspire others to explore new interests and embrace healthy habits. With speeches like these, SHSID continues to foster a vibrant and supportive environment where students can grow both academically and personally.
