Grade 10 Assembly: Harvard MUN China Sharing

October 31, 2025

On the morning of October 29, all tenth-grade students of SHSID gathered in the B1 Theater of the Zhongxing Building for their morning assembly. Following the daily announcements, the assembly moved into its student sharing segment. This week, Edwin and Melonie from Class 10-5 took the stage to share precious insights from their experience at the Harvard Model United Nations China 2025 (HMUNC) conference during the summer break. The prestigious conference aims to provide a dynamic and high-level platform for students to engage in debate about international relations and policymaking. At the same time, due to its status as an international conference, it also served as a vessel for cultural exchange and the collision of ideas and perspectives.

At the conference, the two were tasked with representing Pakistan in the most challenging committee: the United Nations Security Council. There, they engaged in intense negotiations, policy debates, and resolution drafting, addressing the complex geopolitical crisis that followed the Martyr’s Day in Panama.

Their journey was far from smooth sailing. They admitted facing many difficulties with complex procedural rules in a crisis format that was new to them and the rapidly changing committee dynamics early on. Whether it was the exhaustion of late-night consulting sessions or the intense deliberation over draft resolution wording, each step tested their experience, knowledge, resilience, and trust in one another. However, equipped with an in-depth understanding of global affairs, thorough pre-conference preparation, quick critical thinking, and seamless teamwork, they overcame each challenge. Their abilities to compromise for diplomacy and craft detailed, solution-oriented draft resolutions earned praise and recognition from the conference chairs and their fellow delegates.

In the end, Edwin and Melonie stood out among numerous participants and were awarded the Security Council’s most prestigious honor, "Best Delegate." Their achievement not only showcased their individual talents but also served as a testament to the broad global perspective and academic excellence of SHSID students, setting an example and garnering greater interest in international affairs among their peers.
