Middle and Primary School English Department: G1-3 Author's Week

November 4, 2025

During week 9, the SHSID Middle and Primary School English Department held their annual Author's Week activity in Grade 1-3. Students went on a literary adventure, exploring many beloved authors. Each grade level focused on the craft and structure of various stories, learning from these talented writers through reading, writing, and other engaging activities!

Grade 1 students dived into the whimsical world of Mo Willems, exploring friendship and humor through the delightful tales of Elephant and Piggie. From Pajama Day story-time to creative puppet-making, students embraced storytelling with enthusiasm and joy, culminating in a festive Book Character Day.

Grade 2 classes went "Tra-La-La!" for Dav Pilkey Week, honoring the imaginative creator of Dog Man and Captain Underpants. Young authors and illustrators designed bookmarks, crafted flip-o-ramas, and created their own comics. The week ended on a high note with Dress-Up Day, as students proudly showcased their creativity through Pilkey-inspired costumes. In Pudong campus, after studying Dav Pilkey‘s imaginative characters and playful language, students created their own amazing comics featuring unique characters. In Lin'gang campus, the students showed off their imagination during Crazy Hat Day, designing their own amazing and unique hats.

Grade 3 students celebrated the witty genius of Roald Dahl, diving into The Twits— their first chapter book adventure! Through dress-up days, a topsy-turvy upside-down house project, and crafting funky beards inspired by Mr. Twit, students explored Dahl's unique humor and storytelling style. At Hongkou campus, one of the highlights was Friday, when our Wonkas and Matildas joined a fun school-wide event filled with sweet treats and imagination. They also enjoyed a craft activity on Friday that let everyone's imagination shine.

Author's Week has come to a close! Whether celebrating storytelling and creativity through hands-on activities or exploring characters, humor, and imagination, our students have deepened their understanding and appreciation for English writing. We believe this journey has planted a seed in their hearts, fostering a lasting love for reading and writing.
