Puxi Campus G7 | Career Day

November 5, 2025

Recently, SHSID Grade 7 students stepped out of the classroom and into the real world for a day of exploration in this semester's Career Day. Through company and lab visits, hands-on experiments, and career sharing sessions, they experienced firsthand the excitement of innovation across fields such as technology, engineering, biology, and the internet.

The first group visited PETKIT. In the exhibition hall, they were captivated by high-tech pet devices such as the self-cleaning cat litter box, smart feeder, and intelligent water dispenser. The co-founder of Xiaopei Technology gave an engaging presentation on the functions of these products and the research concepts behind them, sharing the social value and human-centered approach embedded in technological innovation. Afterwards, the staff introduced the process of detecting and treating pet diseases, guiding the students through hands-on experiments that allowed them to see firsthand how technology helps improve pets’ health and well-being. The students realized that true innovation is not only a technological breakthrough but also aimed at enhancing life and fostering harmony between humans and animals.

The second group visited two research institutes at Shanghai Jiao Tong University: the State Key Laboratory of Automotive Power and Intelligent Control, and the Institute of Refrigeration and Cryogenic Engineering. The institutes showcased a variety of advanced instruments and equipment, which sparked the students’ curiosity. As the researchers explained the functions and applications, the students’ sense of mystery gradually gave way to understanding. After exploring the equipment, the researchers further explained how mechanical technology contributes to addressing real-world issues such as climate change. Through this visit, the students learned that scientific research extends beyond textbooks and can solve practical problems, inspiring their interest in exploring the unknown.

The third group explored Toko Food, a leading company in the seasoning industry. They toured the analysis, extraction, and sterilization laboratories, where they learned about flavor molecule composition, aroma reconstruction techniques, and food preservation experiments. The visit concluded with a tasting session of the company’s products, allowing students to experience how technology enhances daily life.

The fourth group embarked on a technological journey at Canon Optical Industrial Equipment. They discovered another side of Canon—beyond cameras, the company also provides advanced manufacturing equipment for the semiconductor, LCD, and OLED industries. As staff members explained how cameras, chips, and lithography machines are connected, students gained insight into the complex industrial ecosystem behind these innovations. They also visited the factory and participated in hands-on safety demonstrations, deepening their understanding of the importance of workplace safety in modern manufacturing.

The fifth group visited WeAirHealth, a high-tech company specializing in air disinfection solutions. Students toured air purification facilities, watched installation demonstrations, and engaged with staff to learn about the principles and applications of air disinfection technology. CEO Mr. Zhang and Ms. Zhou shared their personal career journeys—from cross-disciplinary entrepreneurship to professional growth—offering valuable insights on innovation and career development. The visit also featured three engaging science experiments—The Magic of Static Balls, Air Defense Battle, and The Power of Ion Wind—which allowed students to experience static discharge and air purification phenomena firsthand. Many remarked that the visit helped them see how technology quietly protects our everyday lives.

The sixth group visited the headquarters of Trip.com Group, embarking on a journey through the world of online innovation. In the exhibition hall, a guide introduced the company’s history and global business network, showing how technology powers modern travel and connects people worldwide. Students then toured the open office area, experiencing the creative and collaborative work culture. The visit concluded with a lively pickleball activity, ending the day on an energetic note. Many students shared that the visit deepened their understanding of the internet industry and inspired them to explore technology-driven careers in the future.

Through this Career Day event, students experienced the applications and value of technological innovation across various industries and became excited  about future careers and the world of technology. They realized that innovation does not come solely from textbook knowledge, but also requires hands-on practice, critical thinking, and teamwork. The qualities they observed and learned from these outstanding companies are sure to bring new motivation to their learning and personal growth.
