Grade 11 Assembly:Summer School Sharing
During the assembly on November 7, Nina shared her journey at Carnegie Mellon University during the summer. Nina described the summer school as a six-week intensive course, where extensive academic research, product design, and dense lectures were carried out. During the summer, Nina pursued two courses with credit—AI for humanities, and social psychology. She said that she particularly enjoyed the AI for humanities course, because it effectively integrated science-related topics and social sciences.

Although the program was intensive in academic perspectives, CMU also provided engaging facilities such as fitness spaces and a billiard space. Something worthy to note was that CMU has a large Chinese student group, so Nina remarked that the Chinese food there was delicious and she missed that. Next, Nina showed the dormitories of the school and the room where she lived, briefly going over the housing conditions of CMU.

Finally, the most thrilling part was witnessing the variety of fun activities Nina experienced during weekends with her friends such as the sports games, the falling water, downtown trip, going kayaking, visiting the night market, and watching fireworks. Overall, the experience was of utmost uniqueness to Nina, where she had classes with university students, experienced a new blend of science and humanities, and conducted in-depth research for something she’s passionate about.
