Puxi Campus G7: BOND— Friendship-Themed Core Moral Education Program

November 12, 2025

To help students understand what it means to form healthy friendships— ones built on trust, respect, empathy, and inclusiveness— Grade 7 at SHSID Puxi Campus launched a four-week moral education program centered on the theme of "Friendship." Framed around BOND— Belief & Support, Overcoming Conflicts, New Connections and Development & Boundaries— the program guided students to explore how friendships are formed, nurtured, and sustained through understanding, reflection, and experience.

Belief & Support

In the first week, the YD class "The Four Seasons of Friendship" invited students to reflect on how friendships grow and change over time, represented by the cycle of spring, summer, autumn, and winter. In spring, students discussed how to meet new friends and find common interests through a video on transferring schools. In summer, they joined a "blindfold trust game," learning how teamwork and communication strengthen bonds. Autumn focused on handling misunderstandings through role-play and cooperative activities, while winter encouraged students to identify unhealthy relationships and learn to set boundaries using the "Healthy Friendship Checklist."

Outside the classroom, friendship came to life across campus. During the PE class, students competed in the spirited "three-legged race," discovering the importance of coordination and mutual support. Meanwhile, the BOND Poster Design activity inspired students to express the warmth of friendship through creativity and color, filling the halls with heartfelt artwork.

Overcoming Conflicts

The second week's classes centered on Nonviolent Communication. Teachers first introduced its four elements— Observation, Feeling, Need, and Request— and demonstrated how to turn blame-filled language into honest, empathetic expression through familiar school situations, such as group disagreements or misunderstandings between friends. Students practiced expressing emotions and needs through NVC in pairs, reflecting on how careful communication can turn tension into understanding. They came to recognize that words carry weight— NVC fosters empathy, and perspective-taking strengthens relationships.

New Connections

During the third week, students participated in the much-anticipated "Secret Pal" activity. Each student became someone's secret pal, spreading warmth through simple yet thoughtful acts— sharing snacks, offering study help, or leaving kind notes of encouragement. When the identities were revealed the following week, the room buzzed with surprise and laughter as students finally discovered their secret pals. One student wrote in a thank-you note :"Thank you for brightening my days with such small but meaningful gestures. I hope you'll keep this kindness in your heart and continue to share it with others." Through this experience, students built new connections and discovered that kindness itself is a gift that deepens friendship.

Development and Boundaries

In the final week, students reflected on moments of friendship and gratitude through guided discussions. Together, they created a Class Friendship Agreement, defining "green light" behaviors that nurture friendship, "yellow light" behaviors that require attention, and "red light" behaviors that harm frienship. This agreement became a shared code of friendship— a promise to treat others with respect, communicate with care, and grow together. Each student signed their name, committing to kindness and positive interaction.

Lasting bonds

The program concluded with a Grade 7 assembly recognizing students who actively engaged in the activities. Over the month, students explored the nature of friendship through "The Four Seasons of Friendship," practiced empathy and communication in the NVC workshop, built new bonds through the "Secret Pal" and "Three-Legged Race" activities, and co-created friendship agreement to foster a caring peer environment. Though the program has officially ended, its impact will continue to ripple across campus. The empathy, communication, and warmth students cultivated will guide them in the years ahead. The seeds of kindness sown throughout this journey will continue to grow— blooming into lasting friendships that light the path of growth and make campus life ever more connected and compassionate.
