2025 Bit Day: Exploring the Realm of "Intelligence"
On November 5, 2025, SHSID held its annual Computer Science Day—Bit Day. Centered on the theme of “Intelligence,” this year’s event explored how artificial intelligence perceives, imitates, and even creates human expressions. Through interactive experiences and thoughtful engagement, students examined the evolving boundary between humans and intelligent machines at the intersection of science and art.

AI Trivia Challenge – "Who’s Human?"
Kicking off the event, the STEM Doge Alliance launched a novel trivia game: each question presented four answer choices—three generated by AI and only one written by a human. Participants relied on their sensitivity to linguistic nuance, logical flow, and even subtle “human fingerprints” to identify the genuine human response. This activity not only sharpened critical thinking but also sparked deep reflection: “Can AI truly be creative?”

Binary Art Workshop – Painting with 0s and 1s
Participants received sequences of 0s and 1s, each number mapped to a specific color. By coloring in grids according to their binary code, students transformed abstract data into vibrant pixel art. This hands-on activity revealed the hidden beauty of computational logic and made coding tangible, colorful, and fun.

AI Music Lab – Listening to Algorithms Compose
By entering mood keywords like “joy,” “melancholy,” or “mystery,” students triggered the system to generate original melodies in seconds. Many were surprised to find that AI not only interprets emotion—it can also “express” it through sound. This fusion of music and algorithms unveiled exciting new frontiers for creative expression.

AI Portrait Mirror – Real-Time Artistic Style Transfer
The crowd favorite was the “AI Portrait Mirror.” Standing before a camera, students watched in real time as their faces were transformed into artistic styles—from Van Gogh and Ukiyoe to cyberpunk. Powered by deep learning–based “style transfer” algorithms, this playful activity offered more than just fun selfies—it delivered an immediate, visceral understanding of generative AI’s transformative power.

The 2025 Bit Day not only upheld the SHSID’s tradition of interdisciplinary, hands-on learning, but also elevated AI from a mere “tool” to a “co-creator.” As students explored the frontiers of intelligence, they also pondered a profound question: “If machines can write, compose, and paint, where does uniquely human creativity reside?” Perhaps the answer lies in the very dialogue and collaboration between human and machine.
