Pursue·Excel-2025 Talented Students Award Ceremony
On the afternoon of November 26, 2025, SHSID High School held the Closing Ceremony and Talented Students Award Ceremony for its annual Science Fair. Under the theme "Pursue · Excel," the event was rich in content and innovative in format. Throughout the festival, participants devoted themselves to bringing their creative ideas to life through hard work and collaboration. The award ceremony served as a brilliant finale, celebrating the outstanding achievements of the students and inspiring everyone to continue exploring, dreaming, and reaching further in the world of science and technology.

Professor Liu Dong, Deputy Dean of the School of Life Sciences at Tsinghua University, along with school administrators including High School Vice Principal Ms. Zhang Li and Ms. Liu Min as well as many faculties and students attended the ceremony at Xianmian Annex Auditorium. The event was organized in a "main venue + satellite venues" format, with award winners and G9 student representatives present at the main venue, while other teachers and students participated via live stream from their classrooms, sharing this honorable moment. The student volunteer team provided orderly assistance, ensuring the ceremony proceeded smoothly and efficiently.

Principal's Speech
SHSID High School Principal Mr. Ma Feng delivered warm congratulations from Beijing to the award-winning students and expressed his joy at seeing students continuously progress and transcend themselves. Principal Ma stated that high school students are at a stage in life brimming with vitality, imagination, and curiosity, they have abundant opportunities at present, and limitless potential in the future. To the award-winning students, Principal Ma encouraged them that this award is not an endpoint but the starting point for their boundless potential to blossom. For the students who did not receive awards, Principal Ma also encouraged everyone: "There is no need to feel regretful about the temporary outcome. The experience of striving wholeheartedly for your aspirations, along with the perseverance and dedication you showed while exploring the unknown, has long become the most precious accumulation on your journey of growth."

Guest's Speech
Professor Liu from the School of Life Sciences at Tsinghua University, delivered a speech. He began by sharing his own experience of being drawn to Biology after the college entrance exams, eventually becoming a Biology teacher. He cited the inspiring example of John Gurdon, who won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, persevering with his passion for science. With a humorous and engaging style, and through two profound references, he conveyed the message that perseverance and passion will ultimately pay off.

Awarding
The award ceremony brought the event to its climax. As each honor was revealed, talented individuals and teams from various fields such as Natural Science, Mathematics, Humanities and Social Studies, Sports, Visual Arts and Performing Arts stepped up to the podium to receive their well-deserved recognition and praise. The applause in the auditorium thundered like a tribute to these students.

Student's Speech and Panel Sharing
Interspersed with the awards ceremony, several award-winning student representatives took the stage to share their experiences and reflections. Grace from grade 11 compared her experience playing tennis to a mirror. She described the self-doubt and struggle after tasting failure for the first time, but explained how the trials of competition helped her understand herself and find direction for improvement and pursuit. Regarding facing difficulties, she pointed out that pressure and challenges truly reveal one's abilities; they are opportunities given by fate to demonstrate the results of one's efforts. Grace offered valuable advice: accept yourself and keep trying regardless of facing failure or success.

Dora from G10 depicted the journey of continuous collaboration and improvement of the choir band she formed with four classmates. Progressing from 3rd prize to 1st prize in competitions, they realized that excellent teamwork and communication were essential for the best overall outcome, and that teachers' guidance also played a key role. Through competitions, she discovered her own and the team's shortcomings, worked hard to improve, and ultimately overcame difficulties to become a better version of herself. The speech was followed by a spectacular a cappella performance by her team.

The sharing session of this year's awards ceremony featured an innovative format. Beyond the student speeches, a panel interview was introduced and facilitated by two hosts, with four award-winning students taking part—each boasting rich experience and notable achievements in Humanities & Social Sciences, Mathematics, Art, Economics and Natural Sciences respectively. During the session, the students opened up about their personal growth journeys, and their insightful reflections and practical suggestions provided much food for thought for the audience. They highlighted the importance of communicating with those around them, emphasizing that when faced with challenges, one should dare to blaze new trails and try innovative approaches. All the students noted that their greatest competitor is themselves, stressing that the key goal is to surpass their past selves and elevate their capabilities to new heights. They also underscored the value of applying the knowledge they have gained to daily life, allowing their interests to play a more impactful role in their future development.

A New Starting Point
As the Talented Students Award Ceremony drew to a close, the 2025 High School Science Fair concluded successfully. This was not just a summary and recognition event, but also a mobilization and embarkation point. We firmly believe that every word of encouragement received today will transform into the inexhaustible drive for tomorrow's exploration, inspiring more students to forge ahead courageously in the vast starry sea of science.

Creative Project: A STEM Gift for SHS’s 160th Anniversary
As Shanghai High School (SHS) celebrated its 160th founding anniversary, high school students from SHSID launched an ingenious creative initiative: they repurposed discarded computer chips, which were then processed, encapsulated, and imprinted with the prominent SHS school emblem. This work skillfully bridges technology and the school’s history, offering a unique tribute to the significant milestone of the 160th anniversary in an innovative way.
