Puxi Campus G8: Career Day
On November 27, SHSID Grade 8 students stepped into the real world for this semester’s Career Day. Five groups visited five different professional sectors—finance, aviation, quantitative investment, equestrian sports, and elderly care. Through site tours, keynote talks, demonstrations, and interactive activities, students gained firsthand exposure to diverse industries and discovered how knowledge, responsibility, and innovation shape the modern workplace.
Group 01|China Securities Museum: Exploring the Past and Future of the Capital Market
Students in Group 01 visited the China Securities Museum and explored the evolution of China’s capital market. They viewed historical stock certificates, early trading floors, and multimedia simulations, learning how financial markets support national development. The tour helped students understand the many professions within the financial sector and sparked an interest in global economics.
Group 02|Spring Airlines Headquarters: Experiencing Efficiency and Culture in the Aviation Industry
Group 2 students visited the headquarters of Spring Airlines, where an introductory corporate video gave them a glimpse into the company’s development and unique business philosophy.
The visit began with an inspiring speech by Mr. Wang Zhenghua, founder and chairman of Spring Group. He shared how the company integrates tourism management principles with the philosophy of Taichi—a balance of steadiness, precision, and harmony. The Spring Group Taichi Youth Team then delivered a captivating Taichi performance, allowing students to experience the cultural essence that shapes the company’s identity. At the end of his speech, Mr. Wang presented Grade 8 with copies of Spring Airlines: Not a Legend and model airplanes as a special memento of this Career Day experience.
Following this, Mr. Li Jian, General Manager of the Capacity & Network Department of Spring Airlines and alumnus of Shanghai High School, delivered a professional lecture on “Route Planning and Airline Operations.” Students learned how airlines rely on data systems, real-time coordination, and cross-departmental teamwork to ensure that every flight operates safely and efficiently.Throughout the tour, students remained deeply engaged. They discovered that Spring Group is far more than an airline, and gained insight into the complex division of responsibilities behind the takeoff of a single aircraft. For some, the experience even planted the first seeds of a future dream—to one day work among the skies.
Group 03|Quantitative Investment Firm: Seeing the Future of FinTech Through Data and Algorithms
Group 03 explored the world of quantitative finance, where algorithms and data shape investment decisions. Through department tours, a keynote lecture about AI-driven innovation, and roundtable discussions with young quantitative researchers, students gained rare insight into one of today’s most forward-looking industries. At the conclusion of the event, the company also provided refreshments to share with the students, bringing the day to a warm close.
Group 04|Juss International Equestrian Center: Encountering Professional Sports and Humane Care in the Heart of the City
Group 04 explored the Juss International Equestrian Center, learning about equine care, sports science, and venue management. From horse hospitals to competition arenas, students experienced how modern sports combine technology, design, and animal welfare.
Group 05|Yichuan Elderly Care Center: Understanding “Responsibility” and Contemporary Social Issues Through Real Care
Group 05 visited Yichuan Elderly Care Center, where students learned about modern eldercare models and engaged in service activities. Through conversations, guided tours, and a meaningful flower-making activity, they gained a deeper appreciation for empathy, social responsibility, and intergenerational connection.
Through this Career Day experience, students discovered how diverse, dynamic, and interconnected the professional world truly is. They realized that innovation requires practice, that responsibility comes from understanding society, and that every career path is built upon passion, skill, and perseverance.
