High School Chinese Department: Discover Diverse Ways to Experience Traditional Festivals

December 3, 2025

On the afternoon of December 3rd, three AP Chinese classes jointly hosted a unique traditional festival cultural showcase and experiential activity. A total of 40 students immersed themselves in the rich connotations of the Spring Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, Double Ninth Festival, and Lantern Festival over two class periods through deep participation and innovative practice, truly becoming the masters of the classroom activity.

The first half of the event focused on in-depth understanding. During the festival presentation session, students not only introduced traditional customs and characteristic foods of each festival but also explored the evolution and inheritance of these traditions in modern society. The subsequent knowledge quiz, conducted in a multiple-choice format, tested students' comprehensive understanding of the five major traditional festivals in a fun and engaging way, creating a tense and lively atmosphere.

The second half shifted to immersive experiences. Each group meticulously prepared diverse cultural workshops: from short plays depicting traditional festival stories to crafting paper-cuttings and lanterns symbolizing good fortune, and calligraphy experiences centered on festival poetry. These varied activities allowed participants to perceive the charm of traditional culture from all angles.

This activity adopted an innovative organizational model of "teacher initiation, student-led the whole execution." Everything from preliminary planning and content preparation to on-site execution and explanation was independently completed by student teams. This model largely stimulated student initiative and creativity, placing the agency of cultural transmission back into the students' hands.

The event received high praise from both teachers and students. Students expressed that through leading and personally experiencing the activities, their understanding of traditional culture deepened from the level of "knowledge" to that of "emotion" and "identity." The instructing teacher commented, "This was a successful teaching experiment. When students become the true owners of an activity, learning happens naturally. The organizational skills, cultural insight, and teamwork they demonstrated were truly delightful."

This cultural journey, integrating cognition, experience, and innovation, not only enriched the teaching format of the AP Chinese curriculum but also injected youthful vitality and creative momentum into the transmission of traditional festival culture within the school.
