Grade 12 Assembly: Diving into Artificial Intelligence

December 1, 2025

On November 28, the 12th graders at SHSID held their weekly assembly at the Xianmian Auditorium. During the assembly, Melinda from class 12-2 shared her interest in the development and programming of artificial intelligence.

Drawing on her experience from attending MIT’s AI and Supply Chain Summer Camp, Melinda introduced the general procedure for developing AI algorithms, various types of AI models like regression-based models, and applications of AI algorithms in solving complex issues involving black box problems—problems with available data that are affected by tens or hundreds of factors. Melinda pointed out that, like many others, she was initially daunted by the prospect of understanding AI. Reflecting on her experiences, she advised her peers not to let their current skills or tools define their boundaries; instead, they should aim to pursue a deeper understanding of the underlying principles behind phenomena of the world to break through their limits. As the assembly ended, the students returned to their classes with refreshed lenses for their academic pursuits.
